The film is quite good, well made… but absolutely nothing compared to the book. So much better to ditch the film and loose yourself in some superb writing and a fabulous story. Loved this far more than I expected

David Kynaston is one of my favourite historians of British history. His epic series starts here and it is compelling reading. I've read this 3 times and used it extensively to inform my Inspector Vignoles Mystery series

Dad gave this to me back in 2006 and read it twice since then. Genuinely ‘different’ and a cracking good thriller that is all the better for being set in unfamiliar territory of Communist China.
