Crochet Supplies for Beginners

Yarn emoji 14 items
I learned how to crochet from my grandma as a young child but picked it back up a few years ago.  When I first learned to crochet I was using some of those metal hooks… If that's you, you need to upgrade!! Here’s a list of some of my supply recommendations for new (or experienced) crocheters.  These are items I use every single day and swear by.

These are some of my favorite hooks! While they are plastic and can break, their ergonomic handles are much easier on the wrists than the typical metal hooks you will find in beginner kits.

You will need some tapestry needles to sew in your loose ends! I like having a variety of sizes so that I have one for any type of yarn I come up against!

Stitch markers are amazing for beginners to help you mark your stitches and identify certain areas of your pattern if you need. I am a seasoned crocheted and still use these for almost every project to at least mark the very first stitch of my rounds...

Once you start really getting into projects and building your yarn collection you will need this winder in order to make yarn cakes out of your 1/2 used skeins.

If you have been crocheting for a while and have been getting the hang of it, I would suggest you try out a Furls hook.  These have a really nice ergonomic handle and are made with resin so they glide on your yarn so easily.

You need to have a carrying case for your hooks otherwise, you likely will misplace them (I'm guilty as charged on this offence).  Hooks are also fragile if you drop/sit on them, so having a dedicated place to put them is helpful. :)

If you're going to be making large projects that will need blocking (think wearables) you will need to get some blocking boards! I love these ones because you can connect as many tiles together as you need to block your project out.

If you want to make granny squares, one of these bamboo blocking boards is a MUST have.  This ensures your squares stay square and allows you to stretch out multiple stacks of squares at a time.

As a newbie at crochet, it can sometimes be difficult to look at your project and know what row you are on.  These little devices come in handy to help remind you! Every time you finish a row you simply turn the knob and the number will tick up! I used these ALOT when I first started and they were a lifesaver.
