Portugal is making some of the best red wines in the world right now and even at a splurge price they are still not outrageous. These are my absolute favorite splurge reds, some aren't super splurge $ and that is because Portuguese wines are so affordable!
An absolutely stunning red wine from the Douro. This is a staple at big holiday meals and also a classic wine for a father's day gift.
Prats & Symington Chryseia Douro 2020 $110
Red wines from volcanic soils grown in the middle of the Atlantic ocean are unlike anything you will have tried before. Full of salinity and bursting with red fruit flavors this is a wine you cannot miss.
Azores Wine Company Isabella A Proibida 2018 $39
This is a stunning wine from a very iconic winemaker and winery in Portugal. If you can find it, buy it, you will not be disappointed.
Herdade Do Esporao Alicante Bouschet 2015 $53
Here is your chance to try a single varietal Tinta Roriz. These are rarely made in Portugal, so grab it while you can!
Quinta do Crasto Tinta Roriz 2016 $90
100% Touriga Nacional from the Dao region (just below the Douro River) in Portugal. This is a stunner. If you want to blow the socks off someone with a full bodied, red wine from Portugal that will rival any of those famous Napa wines your friends think are the best out there- you will convert anyone to a Portuguese wine drinker with this one.
Quinta da Pellada Carrocel Tinto 2018 $160
Another killer wine from this producer and at a low splurge cost. A blend of Syrah, Alicante Bouschet and Alfrocheiro Preto from the Alentejo brings you a delicious red wine full of dark fruit, earth, spice and even some violets. It is a bargin at this price.

A classic Douro red field bend from native grapes on their iconic property. This wine is big on flavor and tannin, oak, leather, dark fruits, graphite and spice.
Quinta do Vallado Reserva Red 2020 $70
If you like a bold, full-bodied intense red wine full of dark fruit, spice and earth notes, this is a wine for you.

An Aphros wine under $25- a must buy. Red fruits, some sour cherry vibes as well. Everything they do is incredible.

This is a stunner white wine and for my splurge category, it really is not a bad price at all. 75% Arinto, 25% Verdelho from the Alentejo, the wine has citrus, stone fruit, flint, orange blossom and even hints of cream to it. You can drink this now or even hold for another decade. This is a staple in my home.

If you want an elevated Alvarinho wine from Vinho Verde, this is a must. Notes of apples, citrus, stone fruit, minerality, it really is a stunning one.
Casa do Barroso Alvarinho Reserva White 2022 $33
Absolutely my favorite white wine this summer. I even was a guest on a podcast and chose this wine to pair with an album. Loureiro is. most prized grape of the Vinho Verde and this one is aged, which is so rarely done. Buy multiple, you will not regret it!

An incredible red sparkling wine from the Vinho Verde region in Portugal. Berries, floral and all the delicious bubbles like a Champagne (Seeing as it is made the same way).

Looking for a delicious natural wine, this pet nat is what you need. Cherries, berries and banana flavors burst in your mouth. Touriga Nacional is the most famous grape in Portugal and this is just such a unique expression of it!

If skin contact or orange wine is your thing, you must try this gorgeous wine. Only partial skin contact is seen, this wine delivers on Alentejo beautiful white wines that you expect with unexpected flavor and tannin from the skin contact.
FitaPreta Vinhos A Laranja Mecanica Branco $35
Made from the Padeiro grape in the Vinho Verde region, this dry rosé is incredible. Notes of cherries, raspberries and plums, I highly recommend it!
