Screens for code plus chat
Room for your editor, terminal and AI assistant side by side.
Wirecutter's top 4K monitor pick uses an IPS Black panel whose extra contrast makes text clearer on white backgrounds. Sharp 4K text and a USB hub suit long days reading code and AI-generated diffs.
Dell UltraSharp U2725QE
Wirecutter's top ultrawide pick fits up to three windows side by side on a 34-inch IPS Black screen. That is editor, terminal and AI chat at once, with 90W USB-C charging for a laptop.
Dell UltraSharp U3425WE
Wirecutter's 24-inch pick for smaller desks has a taller 16:10 screen, 96W USB-C charging and a USB hub. The extra height shows more lines of code, and it works well as a second screen.
ASUS ProArt PA248CRV
Keyboards and mice
Typing prompts and scrolling diffs all day without wrist pain.
RTINGS calls it the best non-mechanical keyboard for programming, noting dished keycaps that cut typos. Wirecutter likes its backlit typing and three-device switching, though it is large and battery life is short.
Logitech MX Keys S
Wirecutter's ergonomic keyboard pick raises the middle keys in a wave so wrists rotate into a more natural position. Testers found it easier to adjust to than split boards, which helps on long prompting days.
Logitech Wave Keys
RTINGS names it the best mouse for work for most people, citing its ergonomic shape and dual scroll wheels. The main wheel switches to free-spin by itself, handy for flying through long files and logs.
Logitech MX Master 4
RTINGS recommends the MX Anywhere 3S when portability matters, thanks to a compact shape that fits a laptop bag. It praises the build and the metal free-spinning wheel, useful for coding away from your desk.
Logitech MX Anywhere 3S
The machine and storage
Enough compute and fast storage for big repos, containers and local models.
Tom's Guide names the 2026 XPS 14 its top Windows laptop for most people, citing fast performance, a slim design and long battery life.
Dell XPS 14
Tom's Hardware ranks the Samsung 990 Pro its best SSD overall in its 2026 guide. A fast internal drive keeps big repos, dependency folders, Docker images and local model files loading quickly on a desktop or mini PC.
Samsung 990 PRO 2TB
StorageReview calls the T7 Shield its best proven rugged portable SSD, with IP65 sealing and about 900 MB/s in its tests. It is a sturdy way to carry projects, backups and model files between machines.
Samsung T7 Shield 1TB
Wirecutter's top Windows mini PC pick handled about 20 Chrome tabs plus Slack, Spotify and Zoom without slowing down. It adds Wi-Fi 7 and 2.5 Gbps Ethernet, though it is hard to upgrade and weak for graphics-heavy work.
Lenovo Yoga Mini Desktop (Core Ultra 5, 16GB/512GB)
Calls and focus
Look and sound clear on standups, then block out the noise to build.
Wirecutter's top webcam pick beat every webcam in its category, including 4K models, on skin tones and overall picture quality. Sharp 1080p video and a privacy shutter suit standups, demos and pair-programming calls.
Logitech Brio 505
Wirecutter lists the slim Wave Neo as worth considering, saying listeners often praised its sound and its mute button avoids an audible thunk. It calls it great for video conferencing, so demos and standups sound clean.
Elgato Wave Neo
Wirecutter names the WH-1000XM6 the best noise-cancelling headphones, with adjustable EQ in Sony's app. Testers note the cancelling is a few decibels shy of the best measured, but it still helps you focus while agents run.
Sony WH-1000XM6
Wirecutter's top wireless office headset pick praises its exceptional mic quality and its noise and wind cancellation. Flip the boom up to mute, and expect up to 20 hours of talk time with ANC on, 25 off.
Logitech Zone Wireless 2 ES
Dock
One cable to the desk and a seat for the long sessions.
Wirecutter's top Thunderbolt dock has two built-in HDMI ports for a pair of 4K 60Hz monitors without adapters, plus steady 96W charging. One cable connects a laptop to screens, keyboard and network.
