I use my cricut as a hobby and these are the things that I always use and have found to be helpful.
This is the machine I have used for years. I only cut vinyl and paper so it works well for my needs. These were also on clearance at my Walmart for $80 recently.

It's nice to be able to buy these as an entire set. I prefer the tweezers that came in my first aid kit for weeding but I do use all of these tools.

This vinyl has decreased in price over the years. I like the variety of colors and styles. Hobby Lobby also has frequent sales.

I have the mini and the large. I use the mini the most and I love it. I use it for other random things too. Like emergency ironing.

I've tried other brands and they either aren't sticky enough or they're too sticky.
Transfer Tape
This works great for transferring vinyl. If you don't need to be able see through the transfer tape then use this to pick up the design and transfer it.
Painter's Tape
T shirts are probably the most common cricut craft. I like the fit and feel of these.

I use a cute Thirty One style tote instead of a cricut brand one for traveling with my machine. It fits perfectly and it's easy to just toss everything in.

Hobby lobby has inexpensive kids t shirts and onesies. Grab one of those on sale and the vinyl on sale and you can make a gift for around $10.
Youth - T Shirts & Clothing - Wearable Art
Use your cricut to cut out a template and then emboss the design onto a pint glass or mirror for an easy gift.
Papercrafting Embossing Powder
The drawing feature is easy to use on the Cricut Explore air. I use it to make little signs for around the house. "Please take off your shoes." etc.
Cricut Pens & Markers
You'll want a paper cutter like this when you need perfectly straight edges. I use it for other types of crafts as well.
Paper Trimmers in Office Supplies(1000+)
You'll want decent scissors. I have multiple sizes.
Fiskars Scissors
If you plan to make a lot of projects and can spring for the pro, do it. It makes creating your own designs that will cut cleanly so much easier.
Canva
This one is a gimmee. Search Pinterest for inspo.

I use this in a variety of weights and colors for bulletin boards at school.
