ESSENTIAL OILS: Balms, Lotions, and Tinctures

Purple Star emoji 21 items
We began out essential oils journey about 15 years ago when a friend of ours became an affiliate with doTerra.  Since then we've learned to turn to natural remedies before modern medicine and have learned how our bodies benefit from their use.  In this section I'll share some of what I've learned and post links to products.

Whether you're new to essential oils or a veteran user, this Modern Essentials handbook is a fantastic guide.  Lots of information in one place and, if it's the same as my older copy, there's even space in the back to write your own recipes after you've tweeked theirs to suit your needs!

This is my go-to oil for diffusing.
From what I've learned, this is the old fashioned remedy for immunity that was used when you had a cold or flu.  This oil can be diffused in a fine mist diffuser and smells like Autumn in a bottle!  Cinnamon, clove, orange, rosemary…warm and wonderful and the health benefits are great.  It's not a cure all, but it definitely helps.  I diffuse it every night while I sleep.

BREATHE essential, oil has worked miracles for me!  I not only diffuse it when I'm congested, I use the “touch” version, too.  It's a roll on with a carrier oil that I'll post, too.  I roll it on my sinuses careful not to get it near my eyes.  It's a healthy option to popular vapor rubs minus the petroleum jelly.

Here's that roller bottle I described in the post about BREATHE EO.  Good stuff!

In the Balms, Sticks, and Lotions section I've posted the solid stick version of the BREATHE proprietary blend.

I use Frank in my bath water along with Lavendar and Copaiba.  It's known for it's ability to aid is the lessening of inflammation which is my primary use.  I also put it into a veggie cap and take a few drops to help.  Here's what
Amazon says about it:

“Renowned as one of the most prized and precious essential oils, Frankincense has extraordinary health benefits. In addition to its notoriety in the New Testament, the Babylonians and Assyrians would burn Frankincense in religious ceremonies and the ...

Okay, I'm going to be honest here…I didn't like the scent of Lavendar initially.  It really bothered me.  The scent began to grow on me, though, as time went on and I began combining it with lemon and peppermint oils for seasonal allergy relief.  Now?  I LOVE IT!  I think my fondness of Lavendar stems from its many uses that I have found helpful in my health journey.  I use Lavendar, as stated above, for allergies, in my bath for relax ation, on my dog's paws to calm her, on cuts to help them heal, on burns, on our woolen dryer balls to scent our laundry… It's actually an amazing plant!

Here's another staple in our oil collection, Peppermint.
It's great for stomach aches, headaches.  We diffuse it and since it is what we call a “hot" oil, if you decide to put it on your skin always use a carrier oil like EVOO or Coconut Oil.

Oregano is a hot oil to be used with a carrier oil.  I take 1 - 3 drops of Oregano EO with  EVOO is a veggie capsule every day as per my holistic doctor.  It's a natural antibiotic and she has me taking it to kill candida in my gut.

THIS is MY life saver.  I struggle keeping my body alkalized and so have problems with acid reflux and oftentimes, indigestion.  To remedy, I take a swig of water and hold it in my mouth.  Add 2-4 drops of DigestZen and swallow.  Wait 30 minutes.  Repeat if necessary.

I'm posting these Veggie Capsules here with the oils because this is what I use for my Oregano and Frankincense with EVOO as a carrier oil.  I'm sure you'll find other brands out there that cost less, but I've only used these so that's why I recommend them.

DIFFUSERS

Fine mist diffusers are great to use with essential oils.  Listed are what we've actually purchased and used outselves.

We use one of these diffusers and find that it works very well.  I'd say it's great for a large bedroom space or smaller living area.  It comes with a remote control and has a few different mist levels.  It also has a light and will rotate through the colors OR you can set it to just one color.  It's VERY reasonably priced.

We purchased this humidifier while on vacation in southern California where the air was very dry.  We were pleasantly surprised when we saw that essential oils could be used in it! It's big, but not too big to pack in your larger suitcase for travel so that's a plus.  It holds more water than the other diffusers I've reviewed below, so you can set it to release more mist.  Like the others, it has colored lights you  can set, let rotate through, OR turn off completely, it's up to you.  Enjoy!

Just recently have I started using this Frankincense Balm.  I've read that using Manuka Honey with it is a great way to moisturize one's face AND it may erase signs of aging.  If you have experience with this product, please let me know in the comments!

This stuff keeps us alive!  Lolol!
We went to the San Diego Zoo on vacation and walked more than I had walked in a long, long time.  I was so incredibly sore by the time we got back to where we were staying.  Before falling asleep, I remembered that I had some Deep Blue with me. Promptly I put rubbed some on my sore old muscles.  The next day when I woke up, the pain had dissipated significantly.  Day two and it was all but gone!

It also comes in a stick form with Copaiba.

If you prefer a solid stick instead of the eo roller, this BREATHE stick is perfect.  It's easy to pack, not messy, and can easily be applied topically on your chest for respiratory relief.

I'm not keen on the flavor, but many find that these BREATHE drops help them when they have a cold or cough.
