Off to college? Here is a curated list of essential items for anyone living in a dorm! There's the obvious and some things you might not have thought of to make dorm life the best it can be!
Stanley backpack cooler is exactly what you need for an afternoon at the beach, day at the park or a special outing.
I splurged on Pottery Barn Teen Bedding knowing the quality would last all four years! It did. Your teen can pick something that matches their personality and add on pillows and decor as the years go by. The bedding was the best form purchase I made.
Target has the cutest area rugs, lamps, accessories and pillows for a good price. I go there first.
This is a must! Along with the microwave. Of course you can burden yourself trying to move it in but if you don't have much help or travel a long distance, wait until they move in and have it delivered
Must have portable bathroom caddy to carry all the things to the shower and back to the room. A necessity for a shared bathroom.
Baskets and totes of all types are great for any part of the room. Put storage baskets on the list- think useful for shoes, laundry, etc.
This is the key to utilizing space and getting more storage! Must have 2.
Check out prices at The Home Depot for your supplies. Many times I have found the necessary items there and saved money.
This is the place for all utencils and some glassware. You cannot beat Dollar Tree for utencils.
Don't forget the dishpan! They will have to wash their own dishes (the few they may have). If they don't use it for dishes and you have a girl they can use it to wash their under garments.
Pick up 3 pairs of flip flops to be work in the shower. Trust me! I cannot stress how important flip flops are when sharing showers.
You can purchase the printer direct from hp and put the ink on auto ship. I found this makes the most sense - for me.
Not necessary but some may want a TV. I found a 30" worked perfectly for the dorm. Keep in mind she had a single to herself.
Absolutely needed to block out the setting and other noise in the dorms if trying to study. We didn't realize this until a month in.
This might seem ridiculous because it's portable but it is necessary to keep under the bed or in the closet. Trust no one. Your student can keep important documents, gift cards or anything they don't want to disappear in it. PUT A AIR TAG INSIDE!
It seems like we never had enough flash drives. Stock up!
A personal blender for on the go smoothies was a great purchase. Not a requirement- but came in handy.
