Birmingham Botanical Gardens
This park features an off-leash fenced area for small and large dogs alike and their owners. It includes a canine obstacle course, a .4 mile walking track, a playground and a covered picnic pavilion with a large recreation field.
Hoover Dog Park
A nature preserve with 1,038 acres in Jefferson county. The Ruffner Mountain area was home to iron ore mines and stone quarries, supplying the area's steel mills. There is also a visitor center with native Alabama animals.
Ruffner Mountain
A farmers market during the weekend with tons of local shops surrounding the market area. The best place to shop local and get the freshest fruit, vegetables, and sometimes tamales.
Pepper Place Farmers Market
Restaurants
The best place for a good priced salad and a slice in Avondale. I dream about their herb ranch. Fresh ingredients and friendly staff.
Miracle Pizza Co.
Best sushi and hibachi food. There is no hibachi show but it's a cozy spot and perfect for date nights.
Samurai Japan
The most authentic Cantonese food in Birmingham. I love taking visitors here. Their scallion pancakes are the perfect table appetizer. There is also an Asian market connected to the restaurant so after a meal I love shopping.
Red Pearl Restaurant
Hands down the best Greek/Mediterranean in Birmingham. Always great service and their fresh squeezed juices and lamb soup is the best hangover cure.
Makarios Kabobs & Grill
House made chorizo and delicious margaritas. Never had a bad experience here.
El Cazador
The only place to get escargot in Birmingham. Definitely $$$ but worth it. The ultimate date night spot.
Chez Fonfon
Arts & Entertainment
Cozy theater with a full bar and reasonably priced concessions. You don't have to watch a movie when visiting because there's video games, board games and free wifi.
Sidewalk Film Center + Cinema
Free admission and constantly rotating exhibits. Beautiful in spring.
Birmingham Museum of Art
Coffee shops and Bookstores
Vietnamese coffee with unique flavors (the ube cold foam is amazing) friendly staff, cozy vibes.
Pink Lantern
The best cold brew in Birmingham. Even though the space is small it feels airy and open. Delicious locally made pastries also. Get there early to get yummy breakfast tacos.
Cala Coffee Downtown
Small and cozy local bookstore. My favorite place to order books and get journals. In the same shopping strip is my favorite antique mall, a coffee shop, and a pharmacy with ice cream.
