There is nothing better than sitting down and reading a good book on a lazy day with a hot cup of coffee or tea Send your mind into imaginary worlds......or are they imaginary?!
An adventure into a different world. I read this book twice, once as a teenager and then again in my mid-40's. This is an understated book by 2 of the best horror writers, IMO. Although this is more fantasy-thriller than horror, the adventures that Jack goes through to save his mother are amazing. I would love to see this as a movie and am surprised that it never made it that far.
The Talisman by Stephen King, Peter Straub, Paperback
The Xanth novels is an interesting read with lots of Freudian slips and play on words. There are a ton of puns, goblins, dragons, and other mythical creatures in this extensive series. Do your mind a favor and pick up this series. It is a very easy read but silly/funny at the same time.
List of Books by Piers Anthony
The movies were fabulous with all of the CGI effects so can imagine what your mind will see when you read this series. The books are always better✨️
The Hobbit Collection
I read the book before the mini series came out. The tv adaption was pretty good but I love a good book. This is a spin on a vampire character where children are the object of his desire for a long, prosperous life.
NOS4A2 by Joe Hill, Paperback
This series is not a quick read by any means. I think each book is around 1000 pages at least. This series has a mix of a little fantasy, romance entwined with history. Did I mention time travel?? You may have seen the tv series but these books are amazing.
Outlander Books Series
After reading this trilogy, I was disappointed in the mini-series they made. It felt very rushed and the tv characters just didn't match what I had in mind after reading the books. Witches, Vampires, and daemons as friends and lovers? Another series that immerses you into fantasy worlds and relationships.
A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Series #1) by Deborah Harkness, Paperback
Good series for young adults. Magic, angels, demons, faeries and romance are all intertwined in this series. This is an easy read and the first book was made into a movie, which was okay. There was also a mini-series based off of these books but I never really got into it. The books were much better for a quick, easy read.
Mortal Instruments Book Series
You have to read the book!! A classic Stephen King novel that has been made into a movie, a remake and now a prequal spinoff. If you are a Stephen King fan, this is probably one of the best books he has written….along with The Talisman with Peter Straub (one of my all-time favorites)
It: A Novel by Stephen King, Paperback
It looks like a quaint antique store....but is it?
Needful Things: A Novel by Stephen King, Paperback
I do wish they had finished the movies. A seemingly ordinary guy that can see demons and ghosts. Dean Koontz is another classic horror author, and these books are funny, quirky and entertaining. I would like to have seen more movies based on the books.
Odd Thomas (Odd Thomas Series #1) by Dean Koontz, Paperback
The book is so much better than the movie. Could this really happen? Yikes!!
The Mist by Stephen King, Paperback
I started reading the books by V. C. Andrews in my late teens and read all of them until early adulthood. These are more disfunctional family-horror. It all starts with Flowers in the Attic and, unfortunately, gets too close to real life. Horrific family ties, reunions, and life. It all starts with this one!
Flowers in the Attic: 40th Anniversary Edition by V. C. Andrews, Paperback
A fantastic read. A story of love and triumph through the eyes of a young girl growing up in a terrible time. This is one of those books that draws you in to Celie's world and the things she had to endure. Surprisingly, the movie was pretty good in comparison to some other book-to-movie attempts.
The Color Purple (Pulitzer Prize Winner) (National Book Award Winner)
One of the only books that made me cry. The TV series was very good, and the book is stellar. This book follows the life of a young man, Kunta Kinte, who was captured and sold into slavery and the life he lived once he was captured.
Roots: The Saga of an American Family by Alex Haley, Paperback
I am sure everyone has heard of Harry Potter. You may have seen the movies, but have you read the books? A fantastic set to give as a gift to yourself or someone who loves wizardry, magic, mythical creatures and spells
