If you’re visiting Mount Fuji for the first time, here’s everything I recommend doing and eating. Spending 2–3 days here is ideal so you can explore at a relaxed pace and increase your chances of catching a clear view of Fuji. Use the map to see all ...
Tip: Visit the iconic viewpoints on a clear day and save museums for a cloudy day. Here's my suggested itinerary:
Clear day: • Lawson Fuji view breakfast • Chureito Pagoda • Oishi Park + soft serve • Swan boat on Lake Kawaguchiko • Houtou noodle dinner at Hoto Tempura Wakana
Cloudy day: • Yamanashi Gem Museum • Music Forest Museum • Honcho Street cafés and shopping • Oshino Hakkai • Izakaya dinner at High Spirits

Lakeland Hotel Mizunosato, Fujikawaguchiko
There are multiple Lawsons around Lake Kawaguchiko that have a view of Mount Fuji. Go early or find one not near public transport to avoid crowds.
Lawson Fujikawaguchiko Town hall
One of Japan’s most iconic views. Beautiful with cherry blossoms in spring and much quieter in winter.
Chureito Pagoda
Stroll the gardens and grab a soft serve.
Oishi Park
We tried every flavour of soft serve and loved them all!
Oishi Park Cafe
Enjoy a leisurely boat ride on the lake in a swan boat!

Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum
Wander through this traditional scenic village with spring ponds. Enjoy street food, souvenir shopping and clear blue ponds.

Known for the Mount Fuji street view. Still worth visiting for cafés and shops on a cloudy day.

Trendy coffee shop on Honcho street.
FabCafe Fuji
Local tea shop selling tea wares, tea and matcha soft serve on Honcho Street.
春木屋「月滴庵」(春木屋 富士吉田店)
Get the sashimi with truffle sauce, pork kimchi spring rolls, grilled chicken thigh with ginger and garlic, cabbage and tofu stir fry and local plum wine.
居酒屋 High Spirits
A regional specialty: thick udon noodles in a hearty broth. This was my boyfriend's favourite meal!
Hoto Tempura Wakana
Ramen bar on honcho street ran by an elderly couple. Get the steamed gyozas!
