As a Christian author myself, these are the books that have permanently altered my view of God for the better. Beautiful, truth-filled books that are so encouraging.
Gentle and Lowly is one of the best books out there about the gentle humanity of Jesus. If you struggle to know Jesus as a gentle, kind, lowly Savior, this book is for you. It’s an easy read and so good!
Gentle and Lowly: Heart of Christ
This is my #1 recommendation for any Christian suffering from mental illness. It meets a soul ache and is so beautiful. This book combines excerpts from Charles Spurgeon’s sermons with wonderful and relatable commentary and will make you feel so seen...
Spurgeon’s Sorrows: Hope for Depression
Another beautiful book. This discusses the importance and beauty of lament, which we see throughout Scripture. Mark uses accessible language and inhabits grief and lament without losing sight of the Gospel.
Dark Clouds, Deep Mercy: Grace of Lament
Oh, how I love this book. My husband and I have both read it twice through. It has transformed my prayer life and view of God for the better. You’ll cry, laugh, and want to highlight the entire book.
A Praying Life: Connecting with God
Okay this one is a bit heavier in terms of language and theology, but it was so so good. Sinclair helps you understand the importance and beauty of the Gospel, which gives so much hope to those (like me) struggling mentally and spiritually.
The Whole Christ: Legalism, Antinomianism & Gospel Assurance
Another great book on prayer that changed my life! This teaches you how to pray through the Bible (shocker lol).
Praying the Bible
A beautiful book by Lewis on grief. It’s more poetic than the others, but I loved reading it and felt so seen and spoken for.
A Grief Observed
I truly loved this book. Remembering to lift my eyes away from myself and up to Christ is so helpful in all seasons of life.
The Freedom of Self Forgetfulness: True Christian Joy
This is another incredible Keller book, specifically on pain and suffering. So so good. I highly recommend.
Walking with God through Pain and Suffering
Ed Welch is big in the biblical counseling world, and for good reason. He’s great at balancing the Gospel, comfort, sin, hope, love, gentleness, etc. really well. I always love his work.
When People Are Big and God Is Small
SUCH a good little book. It’s a collection of prayers for all sorts of moments— when you can’t sleep, when going on a walk, when traveling, when suffering, etc. I love it. I love it. I love it.
Every Moment Holy, Vol I: New Liturgies & Prayers
This volume is specifically for dark seasons of life. Grief, loss, death, etc. Beautiful prayers.
Every Moment Holy Vol II: Death, Grief & Hope
A great collection of writings from Spurgeon.
Morning and Evening: Updated Language Edition
ESV is my favorite Bible translation! This is a great (and beautiful) journaling Bible.
ESV Single Column Journaling Bible, Artist Series
By far THE best study Bible for an ESV translation out there. So good. My husband and I both have one!
ESV Study Bible
My women’s study Bible! Also ESV and super biblical, just prettier lol!
