World Building

These books really draw you into a new world or an alternative version of ours. Some are more true fantasy, some more magical realism.

The first book in the series! Honestly it reads well as a standalone and I found the next books dragged on. But I really liked the concept and world building.

Now a Netflix tv show! These books are a bit long and dense but super interesting. I loved the first book the most but would recommend all three in the series.

This was one of my most recent reads. What I love about the world building this was the author not only developed a future of Earth, but also built out several alien societies as well.

I thought the world that this book created was a really interesting take on language, communication, and society. Plus some twists and turns.

Magic

If you liked Harry Potter as a kid and are still dreaming of a world where magic exists these are for you. They are often a much harsher look at what a world with magic would be like.

More like a magic PhD program than a boarding school. Lots of twists and turns that are pretty unexpected!

One of my favorite series and favorite authors of all time. I love the depth of religion, lore, and history. The way the magic works in this series is very innovative to me.

Science & Technology

What I love about these kinds of books is they just stretch you into a world that could be possible someday. Often full of twists and turns and unexpected consequences of technology - both good and bad!

One of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors. A really interesting world enhanced by technology in a very specific way. Leaves you with thought around what living and existing really mean.

Just finished, pretty dark but interesting take on current technology and fear. Didn't love the ending but still a good read.
