The whole reason I started this project. I left my flat iron on for nine hours once and came home to a scorched countertop. These plugs let me set a timer or kill power from my phone no matter where I am.

One plug wasn't enough once I realized my blow dryer, curling iron, AND electric toothbrush charger were all crammed into one outlet. A smart power strip let me control each one separately.

After a while I got tired of bulky plugs sticking out of the wall. These replace your actual outlet cover and look completely normal, but they have WiFi built in.

Once I had six smart plugs I needed one app to rule them all. A hub made it so I could say one command or press one button and everything in the bathroom powers down at once.

Not everyone wants WiFi in their outlets. My dad refused to download an app so I got him mechanical and digital timers instead. They do the same job without needing a phone.

Even with auto-off plugs I wanted a safety net. These send alerts to my phone if they detect heat or smoke, so if something does go wrong I know about it immediately instead of eight hours later.

Before I went full smart home, I bought a fireproof mat for under my flat iron. Honestly still use it because no amount of technology replaces not scorching your bathroom counter.

The smartest move I made was replacing my ancient flat iron with one that shuts itself off. Combined with a smart plug, I now have two layers of protection and zero morning anxiety.
