My family and I vacationed in Washington DC and getting to physically see so much of history was truly amazing. Everyone should experience Washington DC at least once.
If you are visiting Washington DC consider getting your Library on Congress card and checking out the main Library floor. This was one of my families favorite thnings we did.

Just outside of Washington DC is George Washington's Mount Vernon that everyone should take a day trip for. My family spent more time here then I expected them to.

I highly recommend taking a tour of the United States Capital. Something my family did was attend a meet and great with our state senator.

The National Mall is a must see at night when visiting Washington DC. Also viewing the many monuments lite up at night is amazing.

I recommend everyone to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and to attend the changing of the guard and laying of the wrath. This is just breath taking along with the view.

Touring The White House requires planning in advance but if you are one of the lucky people that gets approved it is well worth the time.

If you have any interest in Lincoln you should tour Ford's Theatre and the Petersen House. Getting to see where so much history was made is breathe taking.

Visiting the Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum is a must. This made my husband feel like a kid again.

I highly recommend visiting the National Archives Museum in Washington DC. I am a visual person and seeing these documents in real life was a great opportunity.

The Washington Monument can be seen from so many places but experiencing it at night was my favorite.
