When I think back to our holiday in Albania, certain things come to mind. I have given you some useful tips, great places that we visited and some pointers to eating and drinking unusual and delicious treats.

Start your trip by taking in the magnificent views from Tirana airport. It is surrounded by majestic mountains. It was a surprise, most airports are nowhere near as beautiful as this. We got through the airport quickly and found our pre-booked taxi e...
Tirana International Airport
We used this company to travel from the airport to our hotel in Durres. It was so easy to contact them through WhatsApp and agree the price. The driver was on time and the company kept in touch with me from plane landing to meeting the driver. Excell...
Smart Taxi Tirana-Albania
A beautiful hotel - we stayed here in 2025. Our room was clean and modern with a balcony. It has a great swimming pool that wasn't busy, and they upgraded all the sun loungers whilst we were there so they had deep comfy cushions. The breakfast which...
Olivia's Hill Resort
This was the restaurant in our hotel where they serve traditional Albanian food. Other restaurants nearby had a more Italian type menu so we were pleased to be able to get these tasty local dishes. The grilled cheese was amazing - we had it many time...
Olivia's Restaurant in Durres Traditional Albanian Food
During our holiday in Albania, we used this restaurant more than most. Friendly staff and entertainment made this a regular destination for dinner. We particularly loved the fried fish - like whitebait but a bit bigger. We got a huge portion! The res...
Shkodra restaurant
A large airy bar with a definite Wild West theme as the name says. It was busy, obviously very popular locally. Hubby was really chuffed to get a wheat beer (maisels weisse) that is twice the price back home. We had a very tasty pizza there.
Wild West
If you like real ale, you'll love this bar. It overlooks the bridge like pier and has a welcoming, cool vibe. The beer is cracking and the clientele are a friendly bunch. Shame we weren't closer, we would have ended up there most night.
Bridge Bar
We walked around this ancient Roman amphitheater in Durres. Unfortunately it was closed to the public on that day, but it is a very impressive site and you get a good idea of what an event there must have been like. Some of the Roman walls remain aro...
Durrës Amphitheatre
This is a weird concrete platform built out into the sea. It's a series of steps layered up a little like a pyramid. And that's all! But it's a lovely viewing platform and you can sit and enjoy the views of the coast and the sea. A nice spot to rest.
Sfinksi (Seaside Viewing Platform)
(Scroll to second picture as the first pic is up in Durres town, not down near Golem where we were.) A beachfront walkway lined with hotels restaurants and shops. It's a long, paved wide promenade with no traffic so great for kids, buggies and wheelc...
Promenada w Durrës
This orange liqueur is delicious and I used my allowance bringing this home. It's so easy to drink it, it sweet and flavourful. It is cheap and sometimes we were given a tot after our meal. It's cheaper to drink spirits than wine.
Ponç Portokalli - Made in Albania - Authentic Products
Try this unusual fermented drink if you see it in Albania. It has a very low alcohol content, something like 1%. It's got the corn taste, and sweetness and well worth a try. I love exploring the less well-known foods and drinks, especially when you j...
Boza (Ancient Fermented Millet Drink)
Our local supermarket that takes card to pay. Most of the supermarket prices were similar in all the local shops, so we used this one. Wide selection of goods. We liked the ice creams!!
