My cats currently use both a top-entry and hooded litter box. Thankfully, they haven't been too picky about it! I find the top-entry ones to be a bit more space saving and easy to clean. However, each cat has their own preference!
I switched to a stainless steel litter box and it's been great for both myself and the kitties! Stainless steel is easier to clean and don't trap odors like plastic litter boxes.
