This list includes crime movies of any genre (crime thrillers, crime horror, crime action etc). I tried not to include any that are exceedingly obvious or popular, like Goodfellas, Usual Suspects, Scarface, Godfather, etc.
A super famous cast giving an amazing performance. I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through.
Mystic River (2003)
This is one of my favorite crime movies ever. The tension and anxiety I felt watching this was through the roof.
Prisoners (2013)
Drive is one of those movies where I just wanted to watch it standing up. I was so stressed out during it. Ryan Gosling is a stuntman by day and getaway driver by night, attempting to pull off a huge job for a man who was just released from prison.
Drive (2011)
A man (Ryan Gosling) commits a crime to try and provide a better life for his family (Eva Mendez). This attracts the attention of a police officer (Bradley Cooper).
The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)
True story about Richard Kuklinski, also known as The Iceman. He was a NJ based criminal, who was involved in various crimes and killed multiple people, while also having a wife and children who had zero knowledge of this other life. It was an intere...
The Iceman (2012)
This movie should be brought up way more. Jake Gyllenhaal and Riz Ahmed were so good in this. Don’t look up anything about it and go watch!
Nightcrawler (2014)
My most recent watch out of all of these, and based on a true story. This is a Korean movie with English subtitles available and currently available on Tubi. This movie was amazing, and Bong Joon Ho is brilliant. A group of cops investigate a string ...
Memories of Murder (2003)
Jake Gylenhaal appears a lot on this list, and for good reason. First of all, this cast is absolutely stacked. And although I don’t typically like watching movies about unsolved cases since it feels unsatisfying, this movie is too good for me to car...
Zodiac (2007)
Jin-Seok moves with his parents and brother to a new home, but strange things are happening that he can’t explain… this is a 10/10!!!
Forgotten (2017)
This one is obviously newer and is a horror/ crime. Nic Cage is creepy AF in this.
Longlegs
What are you waiting for?! The second one is already out on Prime!
The Accountant (2016)
An eerie crime drama where a young boy finds shocking pictures implicating his father in something sinister.
The Clovehitch Killer (2018)
I love Denzel so much I needed to include all 3 equalizers on here. They’re just great all he does is do good deeds and beat the shit out of bad guys. What more could you want?!
The Equalizer (2014)
Again, Denzel, good deeds, bad guys getting what’s coming to them. Plus, you have the added bonus of Pedro Pascal in this one!
The Equalizer 2 (2018)
The final equalizer movie- so sad! But I did really like this one. It ranks last out of the three of them, but they’re pretty close.
The Equalizer 3 (2023)
My dad used to make me watch martial arts movies when I was younger. This movie rocked and we watched it multiple times together. A man goes on a journey to take back a statue that was stolen from his village.
Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior (2003)
This movie centers on a man sentenced to prison for a few years for burglary, but ends up doing 30 years in solitary confinement. I actually had no idea who Bronson was going into this, as it was loosely based on a true story. But I really enjoyed it
Bronson (2008)
I love revenge movies so much, and I love Keanu Reeves, so this was the perfect movie for me!
John Wick (2014)
John Wick comes out of retirement to beat the shit out of more people… yes!!!
John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)
There is a multi million dollar bounty on John Wick’s head. Assassins, bounty hunters, anyone who can get their hands on him are after him. The cinematography in this movie is CRAZY
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
What an outstanding way to end the John Wick series. It was long, but so worth it.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Ask anyone what they thought of this movie. They’ll probably tell you they loved it!
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
I can quote this whole movie at this point. I think most people can. If you haven’t seen this yet, what are you doing?!
The Dark Knight (2008)
This was a really good reboot of the Batman series. I still like Christian Bale and Heath Ledger a bit more, maybe because it just has more nostalgia for me, but this was awesome and I can’t wait for the second one.
The Batman (2022)
This conflicted me a bit because I know it’s also a horror, but I wanted to put it in crime, since the two detective are trying to solve a strong of gruesome and unique murders. I know this is a popular one but I needed to include it!
