Memoirs
Each of these memoirs broke my heart then sewed it back together.
All time favorite book, hands down. This book started my deep dive into memoirs. I adore a coming from nothing and making yourself into something story.
Educated: A Memoir: Westover, Tara: 9780399590504
Right up there with "Educated." I could not put this down. Poetic rising from the ashes type story. Absolutely heartbreaking. But I would read it all over again a hundred times.
How to Say Babylon | Book by Safiya Sinclair | Official Publisher Page
Perfectly executes the art of telling your story while not judging the characters within.
The Glass Castle: A Memoir by Jeannette Walls
This book resonated with me because the women talked about reminded me so much of some of the women who raised me.
Hill Women: Family and Hope in Appalachia
I think this one speaks for itself. It's dark and explicit, but what good story doesn't have those origins?
I'm Glad My Mom Died: McCurdy, Jennette
Half research driven, half story telling. I loved every line.
What My Bones Know: Memoir of Healing
So many layers to this book. Unbelievable how the author continually believed in her worth despite the misfortunes she suffered. She knew there was a better way and never stopped.
Uncultured: A Memoir: Young, Daniella Mestyanek
Sort of a memoir, sort of a lecture (obviously.) Short book, powerful words!
The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch
Very interesting read if you were raised Evangelical.
The Exvangelicals: Leaving the White Church
Mysteries I rated 4 or 5 stars that you won't want to put down
I read it before the movie came out and was hooked!
Gone Girl: 9780307588371: Flynn, Gillian: Books
Literally would look for any space of a few minutes where I could read just a few pages. My introduction to Ms. Moriarty!
Big Little Lies - Books
Holy twists! I listened to this one and it made my commute so interesting!
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
Another banger from Gillian Flynn. Dark just like Gone Girl.
Sharp Objects: A Novel by Gillian Flynn
I read this ages ago. Solid mystery and twists!
The Lovely Bones: Sebold, Alice: 9780316168816
Again, Liane Moriarty keeps you guessing until the very end!
The Husband's Secret: Moriarty, Liane
WTF?! But also, 4/5 stars from me.
Sometimes I Lie: A Novel by Alice Feeney
The setting is its own character in this one. The twist is twisting here!
When You Find Me: A Novel by P. J. Vernon
An Anonymous Girl blew my mind. Great writing.
An Anonymous Girl: A Novel by Hendricks & Pekkanen
Shocking, yet easy read.
The Wives by Tarryn Fisher
Self-help books that actually taught me something
Out of all the parenting books, this is THE ONE that spoke most to me and my husband.
Raising Your Spirited Child: A Parent's Guide
Excellent read if you're wanting to redefine your relationship with alcohol. Non judgemental with great advice.
This Naked Mind: Control Alcohol & Find Freedom
Some recycled information you've heard before, but fresh perspectives make this one a must read.
Get Out of Your Head and into Your Life
I had to turn this one off a couple of times and process. But I'm so glad I finished it. Very validating!
Understanding the Borderline Mother
No notes. The title speaks for itself.
Mothers Who Can't Love: A Healing Guide
Personally, this is the most fascinating book I have ever read. I reference it at least once a week in conversation. Questions about why you are the way you are? The way your family does things? Read this!
It Didn't Start with You: Inherited Trauma
This gave me a new perspective on life to consider. Will read again.
The Four Agreements: A Guide to Freedom
Books about parenting in the preteen age are scarce, but I found this one to be really insightful.
Between: Guide for Parents of 8-13 Year Olds
