Here are a lot of the books I started out with when I started becoming more interested in astrology and tarot specifically but mysticism more generally. A pretty wide array of topics are covered here, so peruse and pick out what you like!
The Urtext on tarot, providing many of the basic concepts you need to get started with the practice and make it your own.
Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom: Tarot by Pollack
More of a reference book than a book you'd read in one sitting: A handy guide for daily astrological insights.
Planets in Transit: Life Cycles for Living
A bit of a deep cut - understanding the role that Chiron plays out in our astrological lives (and our lives in general, I suppose)
The Continuing Discovery of Chiron, By Erminie Lantero 9780877285496
Investigating mythical archetypes that center women and feminine beings in general - helps to deconstruct patriarchal concepts of mysticism and religion but also just a great read in its own right
Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths & Stories
The Rider Waite (Smith) tarot deck is the most enduringly popular tarot deck in existence. This book gives a lot of helpful insight to the imagery and legacy of this specific deck, which will be useful well beyond when you (inevitably) buy other taro...
The Ultimate Guide to the Rider Waite Tarot ...
An essential guide on understanding house placements as they intersect with broader astrological readings - one of the essential deeper reads in modern astrological literature
The Twelve Houses by Howard Sasportas
A comprehensive and helpful guide on the (massive) role that Saturn plays in our lives, and how that role is somewhat different than we view it in popular culture.
Saturn: A New Look at an Old Devil (Weiser Classics Series) (Paperback)
A more advanced piece of astrological literature, discussing the function of synastry on a large scale and within individual charts.
Planets in Synastry: Astrological Patterns
As the name suggests, this is a short, practical guide to chart readings - an ideal companion to any of the deeper literature in this list
Chart Interpretation Handbook: Guidelines
A less objective, less methodical read than some of the other items in this list - this is more a guide to spiritual fulfillment and understanding, which a lot of tarot and astrological practitioners enjoy in parallel with their studies.
A Course in Miracles: Combined Volume
A beautifully written breakdown of the archetypes and history of the Goddess in human spirituality, which offers the reader insight into how to incorporate these practices into their own spiritual journey.
The Great Cosmic Mother: Earth Religion
A very dense but rewarding poetic and mythological read: Robert Graves's culmination of years of study into Celtic myths (and Eurasian myths at large) and matriarchal religion
The White Goddess (FSG Classics) by Graves
By the author of 78 Degrees of Wisdom, this book takes a deeper dive into the poetry and imagery of tarot, unpacking in greater detail the archetypes it may evoke
A Walk through the Forest of Souls: Tarot Journey
Jungian ideas relate heavily to the mythology that underpin tarot and astrology - this survey provides a wonderful guide to Jung's work on mythological archetypes as guides to the self
Jung and the Alchemical Imagination
If you feel ready for a Jungian primary source, this is a good place to start. This is a more clinical perspective, unpacking the archetypes that underpin symptoms exhibited by many of the patients he worked with as he was developing his framework.
Psychology of the Unconscious by Jung
Yet another Jungian text, but adorned with illustrations and unpacked by his close friend and colleague. A very rewarding read.
