Gerês trails are slippery. Like, embarrassingly slippery. I watched three people go down on the same rock near Cascata do Arado before I even reached the falls. Good grip on wet stone is non-negotiable here.

The weather in Peneda-Gerês changes faster than you can check your phone. I started one hike in sunshine and was in sideways rain forty minutes later. Layering saved me from a miserable walk back.

Mist from the waterfalls travels farther than you'd expect. I lost a phone to water damage at Cascata do Arado because I thought standing ten feet back was safe. It was not safe.

Some Gerês hikes take four to six hours round trip, and there are zero shops on the trail. I bonked hard on the Fecha de Barjas loop because I packed one granola bar and a half-liter of water like a fool.

Cell signal disappears on most Gerês waterfall trails. I spent thirty minutes at a fork with no signs, no signal, and no idea which way led to the falls. Offline maps and basic safety gear would have saved me a lot of stress.
