Oahu is home for me, and since moving away I often miss being able to eat some of my favorite “comfort foods”. Hawaii is a unique, fusion-full food capital. If you’re planning a visit, these are my top recommendations for where to eat while you’re on...

You haven’t had shrimp until you’ve tried Giovanni’s garlic shrimp. My favorite is the scampi.
Giovanni's Shrimp Truck
Steak plates are 🤌
And these were my post-gym fuel. HI Steaks has tons of different dishes to try, but I recommend the steak and garlic shrimp with a side of garlic butter. 🤤
HI Steaks Ala Moana
“Shabu shabu” or “grill your own food” places are all the rage, but this one is the OG place to go. It’s also BYOB- which scores bonus points for me! Did I mention, it’s open 24 hours a day?
Sikdorak: Authentic Korean Restaurant in Honolulu, HI
This rec doesn’t come with food photos, so pause and open up that google-chrome, baaabyyy. 👏 The food here is just as beautiful as it is delicious. The wait time can be gnarly, but it’s absolutely worth it.
YogurStory
My FAVORITE sandwich place!
STORTO'S DELI AND SANDWICH SHOPPE
Uncle Glenn’s food is ono! (Delicious) - and truly, you can’t beat the price for such a great plate of Hawaiian food!

Kalo Bombs Waianae
When I was little my parents would send me to summer camp- and literally the program would take us camping for a week at a time at different spots all over the island. This was our go-to place to get shaved ice in the summers. Fortunately, Oahu is an...
Aoki's Shave Ice
HANDS DOWN, the best pizza on the island. 🤤🍕
Bob's Pizzeria
This is worth the drive out north. Craft burgers that are “broke da mouf” (very delicious).
Seven Brothers Burgers – More than a Meal
This sushi spot has a conveyer belt that travels around the store with fresh-prepared dishes/sushi. You can pick anything you want off the line, or special order and a server/automated food train will bring your dish to you. This place has great food...
Genki Sushi - Your Destination for Authentic Japanese Sushi
The food here is delicious and the restaurant is beautiful, but wait times can get heavy because of the size of the place. Make a reservation ahead of time!
Kaka'ako
This Hawaiian food spot put waihole on the map for visitors to the island. You can find it on the windward side of Oahu.
Waiahole Poi Factory
Kim Chee 7 is da SPOT!! This Korean restaurant has delicious food in heaping portions!

I don’t care what anyone says, if you haven’t eaten at THIS Liliha Bakery location, then you haven’t eaten at Liliha Bakery. Ps: don’t forget the toast with red-jelly, and grab a box of poi mochi donuts on the way out.
Liliha Bakery
If you know, you know. If you don’t know, you bettah ask somebody. This hole in the wall is in Honolulu/Kakaako area.
Cafe Duck Butt
This breakfast spot opens at 7am- and you’ll want to get there early. The wait can get heavy! Try the pancake trio. It’s sweet, and savory and melts in the mouth! They also make a killer omelette.
Egghead Cafe
Is it a bowling alley? Yes. Is it also a restaurant with a killer bakery? Also, yes. Try the crunch cake, and thank me later.
The Alley Restaurant at Aiea Bowl
Koa Pancake House is iconic. This is a go-to breakfast spot. I recommend the guava-lava waffles!! (Or any order of pancakes- they’re all delicious!) Or the corn beef hash with eggs, but make sure you ask them to burn it. It’s better that way.
Koa Pancake House
My favorite place to eat Vietnamese food- especially Pho. Parking is limited here! But even when they’re busy, the service is always TOP TIER!
Pho Saigon Restaurant
This little hole in the wall is worth the visit! You walk from buffet case to buffet case telling the server what dishes you want added to your plate. And there’s SO MUCH to choose from.
Gulick Delicatessen Kalihi
If you love Puerto Rican food, this one’s for you. My favorite thing to eat is a fusion food called “pastele stew”. It’s an iconic dish in Hawaii, often enjoyed at get togethers or big parties!
The Pastele Shop
The place all the local people who moved away from home stop to eat as soon as their feet touch ground back in Hawaii. I love the chili, the Korean chicken and the pastries!
Zippy's Kapahulu
This is where the LOCALS go to eat poke.
Ry's Poke Shack (@ryspokeshack) · Kahuku, HI
This place has it all, from breakfast to plate lunch. (Albeit, breakfast here is my favorite!) I love the pancakes and the loco-moco. (Hamburger and an over easy egg on rice, smothered with gravy… and don’t forget to add the onions!)
Café Kalawe
This isn’t a hole in the wall, as you can tell by the pictures. It’s also one of the pricier places I love to eat. The all you can eat prime rib and seafood buffet- you just can’t beat it. The service is great, the restaurant is beautiful, and the vi...
100 Sails Restaurant & Bar
You’re probably like.. “why on earth would she put McDonald’s on this list??” and I don’t blame you for asking. 😂 McDonalds places all over the world have unique dishes specific to their location, and Hawaii is no different! For breakfast you can ge...
Fast Food in Honolulu, HI at 2476 Kalakaua Ave
This family-style eatery is iconic. It’s been around probably longer than I have, and for good reason.
Side Street Inn
Another upscale place to eat that sits you in front of the most beautiful mountain range you’ll ever see. My favorite menu item here is the prime rib. It’s two inches thick and weighs 20-40oz!
Haleiwa Joe's Haiku Gardens
This isn’t just one place to eat, it’s THE place to eat. This village walk has all sorts of different eateries, all different types of cuisines and desserts! It’s close to most hotels and there’s even a beer garden available. It’s attached to Ala Moa...
