These are a few of my favorite books, there are more to come.  These are general fiction, with a couple of horror stories thrown in for good measure.  Enjoy!

This is the book that made me become a reader at 17.  I was not into reading until I had to pick an American novel to read for a book report in high school.  A friend gave me this.  I never looked back.

This book is a historical fiction drama about historians finding that Dracula is real.  It is amazing.  A must read!

In college/grad school I studied Mark Twain and this book for about a year.  It is truly the Great American Novel and a precursor to the Lost Generation novels of the 1920's.
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Some of the best books ever written.  Ann Rice was a true master.  When you delve into why she wrote them from begining to end, it is heartbreaking and triumphant. Memnoch the Devil is my personal favorite in the series.
Vampire Chronicles - Book Series in Order

Fitzgerald really gives the reader a peek into what life for the rich and tragic was like in the 1920's. The home is no where theme is in the novel surrounding Nick.
The Great Gatsby

I grew up surrounded by these books because my parents read them.  I never cared to read them until I watched the first season of “Dark Skies”.  I have since devoured all of them.  I love that Tony Hillerman's daughter picked up where he left off.

While the HBO show is good.  This book outshines it.  The author takes you from laughing hysterically to crying all in one sitting.  Such a great read, with rich characters.

When I read this the first time, I knew I wanted to teach it.  I was worried that my senior boys would not connect with a story about a girl coming of age/ a murder.  As it turns out, my boys loved it.  Some so much that they went and bought it so they could read it at home.  One year, on the first day of school I had two boys, independently, show up at my classroom door hours before they were leaving for college to tell me what they thought of the movie verses the book.  Amazing!

I know this is crazy that these are on this list, but OMG, The Sandman is amazing.  Even if the author is rather problematic.

If you want a good scare, read this.  My 83 year old mother still remembers how scared I got from reading it at 17.

This is the first Hiaasen book that I read.  It is funny and crazy.  There is a lot going on here, but it is never boring.

This book was so good, I thought I had watched the movie.  The thing is, they have not made this into a movie.  It is not a regular Alex Cross book.  In fact, the character is only in the very beginning and the very end.  If you like historical fiction, especially about the 1800's south, you will love this book.
