My Gen 3 Kindle Paperwhite still worked like new, but newer versions called to me. I chose the Gen 10 Paperwhite after comparing models and types, but what you'd choose depends on your needs and wants.
Essentially the first Kindle I owned, this one is the basic model with 6" screen, 16 GB storage (thousands of books), bluetooth, adjustable lighting and font size. It's long-lasting and is the least expensive version.

In addition to what the basic model has, the generation 10 model (my current one) has a larger 7" screen, an adjustable amber light (which I love!), & double the battery life.
Kindle Paperwhite 16GB - 7" Glare-Free Display
This is the Cadillac of the Paperwhites with 32 GB of storage (you'll never, not ever, run out of book space), it's waterproof, and has wireless charging. It's the storage space and wireless charging you're paying for.
Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition 32GB
The Amazon Kindle Kids edition is equivalent to the basic “adult” version but is natively ad-free, has parental controls, and comes with a protective cover.
