American Whiskey for an Advanced Palate
These are some of my favorite bottles and brands currently. From Bourbon to Rye, there's something for everyone. These tend to have a more complicated in flavor profile and a slightly higher price point.
The Ponfeigh Cask Strength Rye is one of my favorite I've tried in the last year. Full of flavors ranging from honey, green apple and rye spice.
Ponfeigh Cask Strength Rye
Peerless SiB Bourbon is wonderfully crafted. Typically distillery exclusives, but worth a buy if you're in Louisville visiting.
Peerless Distilling Co. SiB Selections
This is a full-flavored Texas Bourbon that showcases the uniqueness of Bourbon made outside of Kentucky
Still Austin Cask Strength Bourbon
RY3 is constantly pushing the limits on their blends. Their lineup has something for everyone, but this one takes the cake. Full of flavor with rye spice and dried fruit.
Ry3 Whiskey Cigar Series
This double barrel toasted bourbon definitely packs a punch. Coming in around 125 proof, it balances the heat with oak, red cherry, and a great nuttiness on the palate. Pair it with some caramel and you're in for a treat!
Mary Dowling Double Oak Toasted
Scotch Whiskey
Scotch Whisky can be polarizing, but here are some of my faves from the perspective of someone who typically enjoys American style whiskey more!
This lightly peated and earthy Scotch is approachable and welcoming. Not overly smoky with some enjoyable earthy and stone fruit notes.
The Hearach Single Malt
This is a classic for a reason, floral and fruity notes are showcased in this bottle.
Glenfiddich 14 Year Old
For the New Enthusiast
This is a classic representation of Bourbon, not overwhelming or too high a proof for a beginner.
Angel's Envy
This was the first bottle that got me interesting in learning about whiskey. Does well in a cocktail, but also showcases unique flavors neat.
Jack Daniel's Old No.7
This is one of my favorite whiskey's for an old fashioned, while it's higher proof it doesn't have a lot of burn and it's still a present flavor when you add it to a cocktail. *bonus: it's in the $30 range which is tough to find at this proof.
Old Grand Dad 114
This is a classic Kentucky Bourbon, easy to find and priced reasonably. Great for a beginner!
