One of my favourites from 2024
This Thing Between Us- Gus Moreno
Slower paced, but easily one of my favourite horror reads
The Fisherman- John Langan
If you only know of Chuck Tingle from his “other” works, you're seriously missing out. This one's amazing
Camp Damascus- Chuck Tingle
There's some real uncomfortable language in this one, but it covers some important stuff. If you're not a body horror fan then maybe skip this one
The Acolyte- Nick Cutter
This was pretty good. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I did A House With Good Bones, but it’s still a solid 4+ stars
The Hollow Places- T Kingfisher
I LOVED this. It had so many hilarious little asides that anyone who’s ever worked in academia, specifically biology, will appreciate
A House With Good Bones Book By T Kingfisher, ('tc') | Indigo
Super entertaining, but there is some… “outdated” terminology, so be aware if you're sensitive to that
John Dies At The End- David Wong/Jason Pargin
I LOVED this book. It was so fun, I love the whole premise of someone moving into a haunted house and just saying “to hell with it, this is my house, I’m staying.”
The September House- Carissa Orlando
Not my favourite of Cutter’s work, but it was still really good. Will make you never want to go in the ocean ever again
The Deep: A Novel- Nick Cutter
This was confusing as hell, but it was pretty good. The audiobook has super loud Morse Code between chapters, so be aware of that
We Used To Live Here- Marcus Kliewer
For some reason horror with kids is always creepier. Didn’t love the infidelity aspect, but the story was a good one other than that
Incidents Around The House- Josh Malerman
A family trying to determine if their daughter is experiencing symptoms of schizophrenia or actually possessed, complicated by the presence of a reality TV film crew
A Head Full Of Ghosts- Paul Tremblay
A boy meets a girl at a high school club for volunteer pallbearers, but she’s not exactly what she seems
The Pallbearers Club- Paul Tremblay
A highschooler refuses to let her best friend, who she is convinced is possessed, fall prey to the devil
My Best Friend's Exorcism- Grady Hendrix
A former nurse and her book club full of southern moms have to protect their community from a vampire who just moved into their neighbourhood
The Southern Book Club's Guide To Slaying Vampires- Grady Hendrix
A boy and his family have to find a way to keep the peace between the Dogrib and the Chipewyan when a boy from a rival family joins forces with a malevolent spirit to try and destroy their pact
Beast- Richard Van Camp
A woman has to figure out what’s haunting her lake house and scaring away her renters
Hemlock Island- Kelley Armstrong
A skeptical English professor specializing in John Milton’s Paradise Lost is invited to Venice to see evidence of demonic possession. He then needs to follow the clues left in the pages of Paradise Lost to find his missing daughter.
The Demonologist- Andrew Pyper
A man has to work to keep his wife and stepson safe from his sister, who is trying to ruin his life from beyond the grave
The Damned- Andrew Pyper
A guy uses his graduate program at Vanderbilt to investigate the death of his best friend, all while being haunted by an apparition he suspects to be the friend in question
Summer Sons- Lee Mandelo
A woman joins a research mission to the Mariana Trench to learn what happened to her sister after her disappearance
Into The Drowning Deep- Mira Grant
The prequel to Into the Drowning Deep, covering the story of the sister at the time of her disappearance
Rolling In The Deep- Mira Grant
