As someone who works at a quilting shop, here are a few necessities that make sewing a lot easier!
Quilter's Select is my favorite brand for sewing tools, but their rotary cutter is the absolute best. Very heavy-duty, has weight in the handle & doesn't feel cheap at all.
A large cutting mat makes the job a lot easier, especially if you're working with multiple yards of fabric!
24″ x 36″ Cutting Mat
A decent pair of fabric scissors is essential. Without them, cutting fabric gets very frustrating and regular scissors dull quickly. ONLY CUT FABRIC, don't cut paper or plastic if you want these scissors to stay sharp!
Fabric Scissors & Shears for Sewing and Crafting
So much better than pins!! Helps avoid pricking yourself & is much easier to use.
Clover Wonder Clips
Omnigrid rulers are great for cutting fabric because they have a tacky side that doesn't allow slipping, keeping your ruler in place & your lines straight!
Omnigrid® 6.5" x 24" Rectangle Quilting & Sewing Ruler
The square rulers are nice for smaller projects!

Sewing pins are still useful in some situations, even though clips are my preference. I always have both on hand.

LOVE THIS! Instead of a jabby pin cushion, this metallic pin tray is perfect for keeping all your pins in one place. It has a very strong magnet and can attach to any metal surface. I can toss pins and they will catch on the tray.
Zirkel Magnetic Organizer-Turquoise
Perfect for snipping small threads. Fits in small sewing kits. Great stocking stuffer!
Stork Embroidery Scissors
Cuts a zig-zag edge on fabric that reduces fraying.
Pinking Shears
A huge requirement for sewing, best way to remove incorrect stitches. The "Oops!" tool lol
