This area holds a special place in my heart — it's where I saw my first bobcat! Truly a unique coastal property, a hike here will make any trip to Sonoma better.
Jenner Headlands Preserve
Every coastal county in this area needs a good redwoods preserve, and Armstrong doesn't disappoint!
Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve
This park is quite large and varied. Shell Beach, within the park, has some of the best tidepooling in the area during very low tides. Other areas of the park have great hiking, too!
Sonoma Coast State Park
Sorry Napa, the tallest of Mt. Saint Helena's peaks is actually in Sonoma! Does this trail start in Napa? Okay fine, yes it does, but the peak can't be taken away from us. :)
Mount Saint Helena Trail, California
Yes! I know! It's wild that we have a petrified forest right here in Sonoma! In fact, it's the only known petrified forest in California! This is something you have to check out, if you're into that sort of thing. :)

This is a pretty stunning coastal area AND there's great marine wildlife and birds. What could be better?
Bodega Head
I honestly love this park. It's pretty low-key, but spans iconic California riparian zones, grasslands, and oak woodlands. A great hiking spot if you're in the area, wine tasting, perhaps!
Shiloh Ranch Regional Park
Is it salmon season? Check out this hatchery and the creeks leading salmon and steelhead to it! It's a great example of conservation success in many ways.
Warm Springs Fish Hatchery
The Russian River, meandering through Healdsburg and Guerneville, is a lovely spot to get on a kayak or SUP and explore! The river changes a lot over its course, so choose your section wisely and in accordance to your skill!
