Household Hacks
Small but mighty upgrades that help make my home more ADHD-friendly.
As much as I hate to admit it, I really do love my Alexa. Things I use it for:
- morning automation that turns on all my lights, tells me the weather, and then plays my wake up playlist
- adding things to my grocery list the moment I notice I'm out because otherwise I will forget
- scheduling reminders for myself throughout the day. they're impossible to ignore because it reads the reminder outloud at full volume vs. my phone notification reminders which I'll just ignore
- turning lights on/off in other rooms to save electricity
Amazon Echo Dot
This is another small, but completely worth it upgrade. These work with my Alexa, so I'm able to build automations with my lights (like turning them on full brightness in the AM to make sure I wake up).
I also love the ability to create different scenes in the app that I can switch between based on what I'm doing. When I'm working, Iike bright, white lights vs. at night when I'm winding down, I'll switch them to warm and dim.
Smart Light Bulbs
This peel & stick whiteboard paper lets me turn any wall into a massive dry erase board (for a fraction of the cost of buying an actual whiteboard). I use this to have my weekly plans on display, keep to do lists, and jot down reminders.
For renters: I didn't even peel the backing off, I just used command strips so I didn't risk peeling off any paint from the walls.

The first thing I did when I moved into my apartment was hang these key hooks next to both entryways at eye level. It's been a year and half and I haven't lost my keys or locked myself out once, so I'd say it's working!
Key Hooks
I lost my candle privileges after forgetting to blow one out before bed, so now I use this and I'm never going back. It also makes my candles last 10x's longer. I have this on all day when I work from home and haven't had to buy a new candle in two y...
It's so good, I've gifted it to a couple people now.
Candle Warmer Lamp with Dimmer & Timer
I'm always rearranging my space, so I have outlet strips on every wall in my apartment so there's always an outlet where I need one. These one's are especially great because they have every type of outlet you could need. I just hang them with velcro ...
The plug itself is flat which is great so you can push furniture up against the wall without it bending the wire.

Subscriptions
Monthly subscriptions that are unfortunately worth it.
Body doubling has always helped me start tasks and stay focused. I've recently started using this platform for virtual coworking sessions and it has made working from home SO much better.
The entire platform is obviously created by somebody with ADHD. They have a braindump feature, daily tasks feature (that guides you through breaking down big tasks into smaller steps), and their sessions include reminders to drink water, stretch, etc...
They've built not only a great platform, but an incredibly supportive community as well!
Focused Space for Body Doubling
Grocery shopping is one of my least favorite chores, so a monthly grocery delivery subscription is definitely worth it to me!
Especially in the city, not having a car means I'd probably have to pay for an Uber back home, so it does end up paying for itself.
Since I use Alexa to add things to my grocery list, it automatically suggests items based on what's on my list so I never forget anything.
Amazon Fresh for Grocery Delivery
Never thought I'd be an audiobook girl, but now I can't recommend them enough. It's the only way I get any house chores done. My apartment has never been cleaner because I'll keep cleaning so I can keep listening. I also listen while doing crafts.
Disclaimer: always check your library first! Unfortunately, there are always holds on my library's Libby books, so that's why I use Audible too.
