Worm Bins & Housing

The bins and housing setups I use for composting worms.  From shallow bins to multi-tray systems, depending on the goal.

This is the multi-tray system I use for composting and grow-out bins. I like it because it stacks vertically, drains well, and works indoors or outdoors with minimal smell when balanced properly.

I love using the Storage box, white, 16 ½x11 ¾x4 " for my breeder bins! You can do bigger breeder bins if you like, but I like to do them on a smaller scale.

I'm using this shelf system with the trofast trays for my breeder bins. I'm going to have 10 breeder bins going on rotation and they all slide in and out perfectly into this shelving. If i could build it I would, but I'm not good at building things h...

Bedding Material

Carbon-rich bedding materials I use to create airflow, balance moisture, and support healthy microbes in worm bins.

This is the brand I last bought from, but I'm sure there are other good kinds too! This is a fantastic bedding for worms. I'll mix it with cardboard, my precompost, or banana bloom (or other carbon sources)

Banana bloom has been an amazing worm bedding! I love that it is sustainable and holds on to moisture really well. It's also a perfect “home” for microbes, so my worms have loved living in this.

I make precompost and it is the BEST bedding! It is full of microbes, which the worms go crazy for!

I shred up my junk mail, but nothing glossy or plastic! It makes for a great bedding amendment too. It gets more matted down if used alone, so I like to precompst it or mix it in with other bedding.

Simple tools I use for moisture control, harvesting, and general worm bin maintenance.

I use the ¼ sifter to catch the worms and bigger pieces of bedding that haven't been processed yet.

This 1/8 sifter catches most of the cocoons, and the castings that go through are fantastic.

I use the 1/12 sifter stacked underneath the 1/8 sifter. It will catch the smaller cocoons that went through the 1/8, and the castings that go through the 1/12 are incredibly fine. I love this sifter a ton!

I rarely use this sifter, but it would be good to have on hand for when I want the extra extra fine castings. It's definitely my least used sifter but I am still glad I have it on hand.
