I've had my curl, lost it, and got it back. My entire life, I've ranged from 2a to 3a curls, and I've really invested the last 5 years in what works for my curl and my hair health. Here are my recs!

Pre Shower

Start slow with these to avoid damage, and work your way up as it works for you! I use on the scalp only!

Others really love rosemary oil as a pre-treatment, but I'm obsessed with Haitian Black Castor Oil. I find it a little easier to work with, the smell isn't too strong, and it WORKS! Start slow to avoid scalp damage though - 1-2x/week leave it in arou...
Haitian Castor Oil

There are so many good brands, I don't have one specific recommendation. Make sure it's not filled with a bunch of other ingredients - should really only me the rosemary oil and maybe 1-2 other things. I prefer Haitian Black Castor Oil but rosemary i...
Rosemary Hair Oil

Shampoo

I'm a huge fan of double-cleansing every day or every other day. I mix it up and typically have 3-5 shampoos I switch between constantly to help different issues and so my hair doesn't get bored.

Super solid option for some types of curls, a little heavy for me so I don't use this every day.
Not Your Mother's - 8.0 oz Curl Talk Bond Building Shampoo

Love this shampoo! I use it every other day, after a clarifying shampoo.
8.5 oz EverPure Sulfate-Free Moisture Shampoo - L'Oréal

Cassie profile picture
If you have curly hair, you need to be using a clarifying shampoo at least once a week! Over using it can strip your scalp, never using it means build up can hurt the curl pattern. Find the schedule that works for you! I use it as my first shampoo (I...
L'Oréal - EverPure Sulfate-Free Clarify Shampoo

This is a step up in price, but can be really good. Somepeople find it too soft for their curl pattern, others are ride-or-die for it.
Curly Hair Shampoos | Hydrate & Define Curls | Kérastase

Really good choice, and can almost always find a sale for it! It makes my hair so soft and silky (just make sure it's paired with a clarifiying shampoo once a week).
Pantene Curl Shampoo

Really great option - make sure it's not too heavy for you but I've found with my 2b/c (3a on a good day) hair it can be great 1-2x a week.
&honey Deep Moist Shampoo & Conditioner 440mL

Slightly pricier but a really good product! If you have curly hair, you need to be using a clarifying shampoo at least once a week! Over using it can strip your scalp, never using it means build up can hurt the curl pattern.
Ouidad Water Works Curly Hair Clarifying Shampoo

Conditioner/Masks

I condition every time I wash (…almost). Sometimes I add a mask in, but not always.

Super good option that's not too heavy!
L'Oreal Paris Sulfate Free Curly Hair Conditioner

Makes my hair silky soft, but I feel it doesn't last as long as some other products. Not a bad thing, just something to know!
Pantene Curl Conditioner

I LOVE the &honey 1.5 hair masks - they have so many different scents and for different hair needs. A little goes a long way - I only use a dime sized amount once a week, mixed in with my conditioner.
ViCREA - &honey Silky Smooth Moisture Hair Pack 1.5

Makes a huge difference for my scalp - no dandruff, no itching, healthier roots (imo). I didn't really have scalp issues before, but now it just feels so much healthier. I use it only on my scalp when I put in the mask/conditioner and let everything ...

Dr. Groot doesn't miss! While not designed for curls, the moisture it adds back in is always good for my hair!

Post Shower

LOVE - only started using this recently but I'm a fan. If I'm lazy and don't want to do my full post-shower routine, this and a scrunch is fine. Helps detangle my knots so well.
Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Leave-In Conditioner (2-Pack)

Can you tell I like NYM? I don't use this every day but when I want my curls to hold but not get dragged down - it's this right here. They have a few different types, so find what's best for you!
Not Your Mother's Curl Talk Frizz Control Gel & Cream 2 Pack

This is meant for tighter curls/coils but I've found it works well for my 2c/3a days. Sometimes I use the NYM leave-in, brush, then use this and it works great at getting my natural curl (doesn't hold long though without a gel cast). A little goes a ...
Cantu Wave Whip Curling Mousse with Shea Butter

I don't use this as much anymore, but my friends are obsessed! It 100% depends on your exact curl pattern so try it and see. I found it not heavy enough to tame the frizz, but it may work better on looser curls! It does help hold losse curls I've fou...
