I started that trail sweating in sunshine and ended it shivering near the glacier. The temperature dropped probably 15 degrees in two hours and I wasn't ready the first time.

The trail near Bow Lake looks gentle in photos but there are loose rock sections and stream crossings that will punish bad shoes. I watched someone in running shoes slip three times in ten minutes.

I carried way too much my first trip and not enough water my second. The trail doesn't have reliable water sources unless you bring a filter, and dehydration headaches at altitude are no joke.

Bow Lake is one of those places where your phone photos actually look incredible without any editing. But I lost some shots to dead batteries and shaky hands, so now I bring a few extras.

The altitude and dry air at Bow Lake hit different than hiking at sea level. My lips cracked, I sunburned through clouds, and I bonked hard on the return because I only packed one granola bar.
