Baby Must Haves - Budget Friendly
Preparing for a baby can feel overwhelming, but focusing on the basics makes it a lot easier to get started without overbuying. At the top of the list are feeding essentials, which you’ll use constantly from day one. Whether you’re breastfeeding, formula feeding, or doing a mix of both, having a good supply of bottles, burp cloths, and bibs makes life much smoother. A bottle brush and drying rack also come in handy for keeping everything clean, especially during those frequent middle-of-the-night feeds. Sleep is another big priority, since newborns spend most of their time resting. A safe sleep space like a crib or bassinet with a firm mattress and fitted sheets is essential. Many parents also rely on swaddles or sleep sacks to help babies feel secure and sleep more comfortably. A baby monitor can give you peace of mind, letting you keep an eye on your little one while they’re in another room. Diapering quickly becomes part of your daily routine, so having everything ready ahead of time is a must. You’ll need diapers in a couple of sizes since babies grow fast, along with wipes and a good diaper cream to help prevent irritation. A changing pad makes diaper changes easier and more hygienic, whether you’re at home or setting up a small changing station. A diaper pail or covered trash bin is also helpful for controlling odor. Bath and hygiene items don’t need to be complicated, but they do need to be gentle. A baby bathtub, soft washcloths, hooded towels, and mild baby soap are usually all you need for the first several months. Tiny nails grow fast too, so baby nail clippers or a file are important to keep scratches under control. Clothing-wise, simple basics like onesies, sleepers, socks, and a few seasonal layers will cover most situations without overfilling the dresser. Finally, a few extras can make daily life a little easier when you need your hands free. An infant car seat is non-negotiable for safe travel, and a stroller or travel system helps when you’re out and about. Items like a baby swing, bouncer, or pacifiers can be helpful for soothing, depending on what your baby likes. You don’t need everything at once, but starting with these essentials helps you feel prepared without going overboard.
