The West Coast is absolutely gorgeous in the spring time! Granted you can't swim in the ocean during this time of year since the water is still too cold, but you can enjoy all the beauitful things this side of the country has to offer!
Avoid the heat of summer and explore all LA has to offer plus get the added benefit of less crowds then if you'd gone in the winter!

Pick an island in Hawaii in the spring and you'll have a wonderful time. It's so beautiful there this time of year. Plus the best part is that if the weather isn't great on one side of the island you're on, you can just swap over to the other one!
