Standing on the bridge over Saltstraumen feels like someone pointed a fire hose of Arctic air at your face. I ruined a jacket and a pair of gloves on day one. These held up through three visits across different seasons.

The whirlpools at Saltstraumen form and dissolve in seconds. I missed my best shots because I was fumbling with settings. Came back with the right setup and finally got frames worth printing.

My first day I ate a sad hot dog from a Cirkle K because I assumed there'd be restaurants right at the bridge. There are not. But within a short drive, the food scene around Bodø is quietly excellent if you know where to look.

I showed up at random and saw some mild swirling. Came back at peak current after checking the tide tables and it was a completely different experience. Timing is everything here, and a few tools make the difference between ‘meh’ and ‘holy cow.’

You're already in one of the most remote and beautiful parts of Norway. Spending your whole trip on one bridge would be a waste. I built in a few side trips and each one earned its spot in my memory.

There were a handful of small things I either forgot or didn't think of that would have saved me real frustration. None of them are exciting. All of them matter.
