Living in the Pacific Northwest meant my front door was basically a car wash entrance. These are the mats that actually trapped water instead of letting it slide right through onto my hardwood.

Three kids who play soccer in the rain plus a dog who thinks mud is a personality trait — I needed something that contained the mess, not just absorbed it.

My first attempt at a thick doormat ended with my mother-in-law catching her toe on it and nearly face-planting. These lay flat enough that nobody stumbles but still catch everything.

Half the mats I bought fell apart after one wash cycle or came out looking like a crumpled mess. These go in the washer and come out looking like I just bought them.

Standard doormats covered about a third of my double-door entry. People just walked around them, which defeated the entire purpose.

Realized half my problem was that dirt never got scraped off BEFORE shoes came inside. Adding a scraper mat outside the door cut the indoor mess by at least half.

My apartment has a narrow hallway from the front door to the living room, and dirt traveled the entire length before I figured out runners were the answer.

Between my golden retriever shaking off rainwater IN the house and tracking muddy paw prints across everything, I needed mats specifically designed for the chaos pets bring through the door.
