Picked the wrong neighborhood my first trip and spent more time in Ubers than actually doing anything. These three spots put you within walking distance of what matters.

Spent my first morning wandering into a random café and eating a sad croissant. Don't do that. These three spots made me realize how wrong I'd been eating Mexican food my entire life.

Before this trip I thought street tacos were street tacos. Then a woman handed me a blue corn quesadilla from a comal on the sidewalk and I had to sit down for a minute.

There are over 150 museums in this city which is an absurd number. I tried to see too many and burned out. These three are the only ones I'd go back to tomorrow.

Almost skipped these because the city itself felt like enough. Glad I didn't — each one gave me a completely different version of Mexico.

Showed up with a rolling suitcase and white sneakers like a fool. The sidewalks are uneven, the sun is stronger than you think, and nobody warned me about the altitude headaches.

My Spanish was rusty and my sense of direction was nonexistent. A few small things made the difference between feeling lost and feeling like I sort of belonged.
