I find myself reading many of these books a second time!
I just re-read this classic. Paul William Roberts was one of my favorite authors. A great sense of humor. He wrote superb books on Egypt & the Middle East as well.
Empire of the Soul: Roberts, Paul William - Books
A classic train journey through India & beyond.
The Great Railway Bazaar: By Train Through Asia by Paul Theroux
Ruth Prawer Jhabvala-one of my favorite writers about India. This was one of the first I read by her.

City of Djinns: A Year in Delhi by William Dalrymple
I first heard about this novel & its author when reading another book by the great Indian writer VS Naipaul. Naipaul himself gave it it a good review!
A Fine Family by Gurcharan Das
Controversial but a must read. Many people in India did not appreciate Naipaul's critical stance.
India - A Wounded Civilization: Naipaul, V. S.
A vintage read…very compelling. A British woman describes her attachment to a Sikh Nihung man & their complicated relationship.
An Indian Attachment by Sarah Lloyd
Great vintage tea estate romance in the colonial British period. From another era altogether. Takes the reader into that world.
INVITATION TO TEA: Lang, Monica: Books

Hilarious!! One of my fondest novels of India. From the British colonial days. Don't miss it.
The Hill of Devi by E.M. Forster
I have read this collection of short stories by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala many moons ago. Have to add it to the growing re-read pile!
Like Birds, Like Fishes: And Other Stories by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala
This is a slightly more contemporary view of India. It received rave reviews and it has become a best seller many times over.
A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry
This is the description of the life of what used be called the “scheduled castes” or "Untouchables". This book may be hard to find. I purchased many of these books in India-decades ago. So some may not be locally available. It is a real eye opener about the old days in India.
