A shocking memoir about one of the worst cases of child abuse at the time, but through it all, Dave Pelzer never gives up hope. Mature themes but teens devour this book.
A Child Called It: One Child's Courage
A dad wrote this book to persuade his son to stay out of gangs. Mature themes but students can't put this down!
Always Running: La Vida Loca by Luis J. Rodriguez
Incredible story of a boy escaping his harrowing life as a soldier. Mature themes but you won't be able to put it down.
A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier
I just started reading this, but it starts out strong. It's about a young Afro-Latina girl growing up in Harlem. Written in verse.
