Beach essentials

Beach with Umbrella emoji 10 items
I am lucking enough to live within just a few hours of the North Carolina beaches, so my beach gear certainly gets its uses!  These are the essentials I bring on every beach trip, from entertainment, to food prep, to lounging.

This thing is incredibly useful and durable.  It has tagged along for years of beach trips and creates a nice sand-free place to sit or lay down on when not in the water or lounging in the beach chair.  We typically use it for a nice picnic under the Shibumi.

It has four corner pockets you can fill with sand to keep it from blowing away, and also comes with some stakes for extra reinforcement or use somewhere other than the beach.  A little pocket is great to stash a phone, and its lightweight and packable design makes it easy to take anywhere.

Another purchase that has held up incredibly well to the harsh saltwater and sun.  The Tommy Bahama chair easily shifts into multiple positions, including lay flat, so you can always find a comfortable position.  Bonus, it has an adjustable pillow for maximum comfort.  It has a phone pocket on the side, right next to the essential cup holder, and also boasts a drainable pouch on the back on top of the BUILT IN COOLER.  Seriously, they've thought of everything.  For packing up, you can fold it flat on itself and use the straps to where it like a backpack.

I've got two of these (plus a kids version) and cannot recommend it enough.  It has held up incredibly well to the saltwater and I expect many more years of use.

If you've ever been to a beach in North Carolina, you've seen these.  Invented and sewn in the Carolina's, the Shibumi is the ultimate beach shade.  It is incredibly portable, easy to setup, and useful.  All you need is the slightest of breezes, something you always have at the beach.  This is a seriously ingenius product and it makes hauling things down to the beach so much easier.  Did I mention just how easy it is to setup?

I have lost far too many sunglasses in the ocean.  Not only is it bad for the wallet, but that plastic does NOT need to be in the ocean.  What I like about these straps is how tight they grip onto the frame so they are NOT going anywhere.  Already tested at Holden Beach and no glasses lost!

Enhance your beach time with some tunes!  I have the first generation UE Boom from 2013 and it is still kicking.  The sound is surprisingly great as is the battery life.  With the Wonderboom 4, you get a more portable package that still boasts plenty of sound and bonus; it is waterproof and dust-proof, making it a perfect choice for the beach, pool, hike, or whatever nature can throw at it.  Just don't blast it too loud and disturb your neighbors!

When you're spending all day at the beach you cannot be without your cooler.  And if you're anything like me, you're going down to the water right after breakfast and not leaving until it's time to cook dinner.  So I need a cooler that I can lug, keep everything cold in the blazing sun, and can carry drinks, lunch, and more drinks.  The RTIC cooler has checked all of those boxes for me for years and half the cost of something like a Yeti.

Nothing beats a crisp beer while relaxing in your chair listening to the waves crashing.  But with that blazing sun you need to keep that beer cool!  The RTIC can cooler is great at insulating cans and is super tough.  Mine has endured countless days in the pool and many beach trips, getting beat up by the salt, sand, and sun…and it still looks brand new!  And at half the cost of a Yeti…I'll take the RTIC every time.

If you've got the steam/boil pot you need a powerful burner.  My stock pot is 36qt so with that much water, it can take a long time to get the water to a boil.  Can, but doesn't thanks to this burner.  With an output up to 100,000 BTUs this will get your boil going real fast so you can get to eating!  The adjustable air intake and wind blocker make it really easy to start when you're battling the ocean breeze and the regulator helps ensure you're not leaking any gas.

The highlight meal of every beach trip; steam pot night.  The Bayou Classic stock pot with steam basket offers plenty of room for the biggest get togethers, and the stainless steel material holds up great.  I use mine for boils and steaming.  My favorite?  Crab legs.
