My family and I have been in Phoenix, AZ for a few generations now and I like to think we have a pretty good idea of local spots to check out. These are our top restaurants and shops for a variety of tastes and needs!

An absolute vibe of a coffee shop, perfect place to work or meet with friends. Everything on the menu is delicious and creative, including specialty coffees, cocktails, wings, and a breakfast pizza that will surprise you.
Luana's Coffee
Home of the infamous dough melt! Delicious ice cream stuffed into a hot doughnut, it doesn't get much better than that. Open late with a nice patio.
Novel Ice Cream
Delicious homemade ice cream with a cool place to hang out in the back with games. The owners are super nice and always happy to talk about how they make their flavors.
Lix Uptown Ice Cream
Delicious taco spot, also does good quesadillas with a nice salsa selection. They make refreshing agua frescas as well, and is a good spot for a quick afternoon lunch!
Tacos Calafia Downtown
A good place when I want better options than Starbucks. They make a good vietnamese coffee, matcha and teas that you can add boba and jellies too. Also has a good set up inside for working
7 Leaves Cafe
My family's go-to spot for pho in the area, also has good spring rolls.
Pho Noodles
Hole in the wall Mexican spot that always delivers. Everything we've tried there has been delicious including tamales, tacos dorados, and breakfast burritos. They are cash only!
El Norteno
Great place for pizza and pastas, both locations are good for takeaway as well.
Forno301 - Phoenix, Scottsdale
Underground bar serving New Mexican food from their counterpart, Richardson's. Good vibes and bartenders that will make a fantastic craft cocktail.
Rokerij at Richardson's
This place is always packed so we usually do take away, but it is our favorite thai place, especially for my aunt who is gluten-free. Great curries and drunken noodles!
Thai E-San
Fun pizza spot with a good bar and daily specials. Perfect for the lunch break or date night. That summertime watermelon salad is to die for.
The Parlor
Artsy craft cocktail bar that also does great food. A little bit on the spendier side, but you're guaranteed delicious bites. My favorites are the seasonal carpaccio, the lamb chops, and the Como La Flor cocktail. The menu does rotate, so anytime you...
Dahlia Tapas Tequila & Wine
For being in a desert, this place has some of the best sushi around. A good spot for a night out, but also does a good lunch special. The OMG roll is a must, and any of their sashimi is super fresh and delicious.
Harumi Sushi
Shops
A fantastic example of urban farming in Phoenix Metro. My go to place for plant starts, compost and soil additions. It's also a beautiful place to walk around and take classes at, everyone there is very knowledgeable and friendly.
The Arizona Worm Farm
For all things house plants and community. They have a cafe in house and weekend events that make it a very cool place to hang out.
Pueblo Life
Health and beauty done by some beautiful people. Everything made in the shop is vegan, cruelty free, and full of intention. They have some very creative scents and sustainable self-care products, as well as products from other small businesses.
Strawberry Hedgehog
Killer vintage shop, what we really want out of goodwill, kitschy jewelry and mid century furniture and all. Cool place to wander for a day.
Retro Ranch
Another cool vintage shop, more for furniture and fixtures, but they have some incredible pieces. Make sure to double check the hours before you go.
The Shops in Uptown
Anybody who knows this place knows it can be totally crazy. As its name suggests, it's the last ditch place for returns from Nordstrom, so you find some incredibly priced luxury items. It has suits, wedding dresses, boots, home decor, swim suits, you...
