Mainly romance, but I live for good characterization, wit, and lyrical prose. If I couldn't put it down, you'll find it here.

Arranged Marriage

Its all in the title! I love this trope which often includes forced proximity, enemies to lovers, and choosing to love.

If you've ever wanted to be a princess and be carried away by an icy king whose heart won't seem to melt for anyone, this book is for you.
The Winter King (Weathermages of Mystral, #1) by C.L. Wilson

This book surprised me. Arranged marriage between a human and a sharp toothed dark elf (they never call him that, but...). Read it. You won't regret it. Stands alone, but I enjoyed the next book with related characters.
Radiance (Wraith Kings, #1) by Grace Draven

This is also Christian fiction, but I love arranged marriage tropes so much. A heartbroken prince of a small country chooses to get remarry to honor tradition. A political move, he marries a commoner. She has to learn how to be a princess and what it...
The Princess by Lori Wick

Yay yay for YA

YA books are awesome for encouraging young readers, but also make great palate cleansers.

Every book in this fairytale retelling series was golden. I wasn’t expecting it to hit like it did. My favorite was Rapunzel. You do need to read them all in order to complete Cinderella's story, but trust me you'll enjoy the journey. No spice.
Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer

This book made me feel like it was okay to have mousy brown hair and dark brown eyes. That it was okay to be proud of a hard day at work. That I didn’t have to look like everyone else to be special, important, and loved. This is a must read for any y...

If you like cherries jubilee, princesses, magic, and/or dragons, this book and its follow up are for you. I routinely read the first two books in the Enchanted Forest Chronicles until my book actually fell apart. Its a different take on what a prince...

Omg just read this already. If you like European authors with wit, vivacity, and imagination, you'll enjoy Diana Wynn Jones. Such sass and she's responsible for Howl's Moving Castle, too. YA all the way.
Chrestomanci (Recommended Reading Order) Series

I read this book every few years. There's something about this slow burn and the nobility of an ugly duckling who keeps her pride in a healthy way that speaks to feminine strength. I want to stand even in the face of not getting what my heart desires...
The Perilous Gard by Elizabeth Marie Pope

You just get roped in for a great ride on this book. Ghosts. Time travel(?). Spies. Intrigue. A young orphan finds friends and family in the strangest of places. I enjoyed this book so much, I wanted to write a letter to the remaining family members ...
The Sherwood Ring by Elizabeth Marie Pope

What were was there?

If you're into sexy weres and quirky, hard hitting FMLs, this is a series to sink your teeth into. Witty and fun, you'll laugh and get just enough spicy to make you blush in public.
Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews

There was just something addictive about this book. I read it so fast it felt like a short story. 4/5 stars from me.
Mating the Huntress (Monsters and Mates #1)

Cordelia's Honor is a book about a bad-a female lead in the progolgue of a space opera. It was the first "science fiction" novel I ever read. Beware, there are some darker scenes broached dealing with SA and potential SA.
Cordelia's Honor (Vorkosigan Omnibus, #1) by Lois McMaster Bujold

Christian Fiction

Books that lead you closer to understanding larger truths about the Christian walk. It can be difficult and dark out there, these can help light the way.

Completed Christian based trilogy. Slow burn for the ages, so you'll need book two and three, but a nice read.
To Bind Fire (Empire of Ash and Song #1) by D.E. Carlson

A missionary and his children return to America: Santa Rosa, California. The first book is a prequel to meet some of the families in the town and is one of my favorites. Sean Donovan is so good and probably my favorite book in the series. Mmm! Blacks...

A horrible accident at sea. A girl is lost to the ocean or so they thought. Returned to England from the very different environment she was raised in, what happens when you hate wearing shoes but have to attend a ball? This book series would also fal...

I enjoyed this whole Christian romance series. It is reminiscent to me of The Mummy with Brandon Fraiser.
A Kiss of Adventure (Treasures of the Heart 1)

Historical

Came for the tight pants and stayed for the witty banter.

Mulan, but the American Revolution. While this is losely based on a true story, I loved how tbe author shifted it. It started slow, but when it picks up, I couldn't put it down.

Want England in the 1800's? This book is for you. You may need to look up the slang, but if you're my age you're already used to that anyway.
The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer

In it for the long play. Tragedy. Revenge. Mystery. And a steady trigger finger. These Old Shades is a fascinating example of Heyer's work. Has a prequel and a sequel which is abnormal for Heyer. Tropes: age gap, feisty FMC x grumpy MMC, touch her an...

Missing the time traveling trope? Susan does it well and it doesn't drag on forever. There is a sequel, but this book can stand alone, too.
The Winter Sea (Slains, #1) by Susanna Kearsley

A call for representative literature please. This book made me feel as if my body type could actually be attractive. I wrote a poem about it. So, if you haven't read this witty book, you should.
