Anything can happen abroad, both for men and women and it is better to be safe that sorry. It is extremely rare you will run into complications while abroad, but again it is better to be safe. Investing in a bottle could save you one day.

Pickpocketing is among the more common things one may experience abroad which is why I recommend buying a no theft travel bag. It does not have to be a backpack, but get something you are comfortable wearing around.

I always like to keep a good pen on hand because you never know when you need to write something down. A multipen is, in my opinion, much better to use as you can write a lot without taking up too much space in your bag.
