My first attempt was a yogurt cup with potting soil and hope. That's it. These actual kits come with trays, domes, and labels so you stop guessing and start growing.

Every seedling I grew near a window turned into a tall, floppy noodle reaching for light. Once I added a real grow light, the stems thickened up and actually stood on their own.

Regular potting soil was my biggest mistake. It stayed too wet, grew mold, and my seeds rotted before they ever cracked open. Switching to actual seed starting mix changed everything.

Peppers and tomatoes sat in their trays doing absolutely nothing for two weeks. Turns out the soil was too cold. A heat mat underneath bumped the temperature and seeds cracked open within days.

Week three I had 60 identical green sprouts and no idea which were tomatoes and which were marigolds. Labeling everything from day one is the boring step that saves your whole plan.

Grew beautiful seedlings indoors then watched half of them die within a week of going outside. Hardening off and transplanting right made the difference between a real garden and a graveyard.
