Thriller and Horror
Oooo is this one a page turner! I think I read this in one day. It’s a wild ride from cover to cover and does end happy. Well, for some of the characters at least…
The Housemaid
This eerie and fast-paced psychological thriller features an unnerving atmosphere and is highly bingeable. Warning, you will crush this book in one sitting.
Never Lie
This book is an addictive and anxiety-inducing thriller. It’s also a satire of the modern publishing industry. Let’s just say it is one chaotic and messy ride you don’t want to get off.
Yellowface: A Reese's Book Club Pick
This is a sci-fi thriller that’s also a family drama. If you want a very fast-paced read, this one’s for you. There are short chapters and mini cliffhangers, making you turn the pages with lightning-speed.
Dark Matter
Talk about your plot twists! This dark and creepy psychological thriller is very addicting. I finished it in one sitting. I was constantly questioning what was true and still think about it today.
Verity
Historical Fiction
Set in 1950s, the story is about old Hollywood glam. It’s an entertaining read, like a scandalous celebrity tell-all. However, it also encompasses a heart-wrenching melodrama. This book really proves how diverse historical fiction can be.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo: A Novel
This is a blend of historical fiction and mythology, specifically combining ancient Greek mythology and the Trojan War. It has deeply romantic and devastatingly tragic tones, a slow-burn love that left me with a profound sense of heartbreak.
The Song of Achilles
I just love all Kristin Hannah books. This one is also emotional and heart-wrenching. It captures the fiercely patriotic, but tragic, journey of female nurses serving in the Vietnam War and their obstacles with returning home to a divided country.
The Women
WithSet in Alaska, this heart-wrenching and intense survival story also has a dark psychological thriller vibe. It is a blend of a harsh, dangerous wilderness and a tense, dark family.
The Great Alone
Fantasy
Spanning across timelines, this novel is hauntingly romantic and deeply melancholic. It’s a beautifully tragic magical realism in which a woman makes a bargain for immortality but is cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue
This duology is dark, gritty, and highly cinematic with its "thieves in the night" vibe. It is a high-stakes, character-driven fantasy. Essentially, it has the tension of Ocean’s Eleven mixed with the dangerous, old-school atmosphere of a mob-control...
Six of Crows Boxed Set: Six of Crows, Crooked Kingdom
This will always be one of my most-beloved reads. It’s decadently dream-like, full of whimsical magic and a slow-burning romance with a vintage aesthetic. I couldn’t get enough of its enchanting atmosphere. The writing in and of itself is absolutely amazing, very lush and artistic.
The Night Circus
This high-stakes romantasy series was very addicting to me. It’s very The Hunger Games meets Red Queen. There is a deadly, rigged arena competition with a slow-burn, forbidden romance between a powerless slum girl and a royal elite.
Powerless
This apocalyptic fantasy trilogy is about visceral survival. The vibe is very grimdark yet also deeply resilient. It’s set in an unstable world where magic is treated as a dangerous burden. This complex world tackles themes of inequality, oppression,...
The Broken Earth Trilogy: The Fifth Season, the Obelisk Gate, the Stone Sky
Romance
This witty and steamy rom-com has both lighthearted banter and deeper elements of grief and self-discovery. Don’t be fooled by its title and cutesy cover; this book offers substance far beyond a fluffy read. I laughed, I cried, and I loved this story...
Beach Read
This book, like many Emily Henry’s, is witty and emotionally grounding. This contemporary romance has sharp humor, believable chemistry, and heavier themes of childhood trauma. It was just fabulous; I didn’t want it to end.
Funny Story
This book is just all around funny, warm, and highly relatable. This romantic comedy has a modern high-concept premise (a DNA-matching dating app) with a cozy, grounded, and emotional narrative about finding love in unexpected places.
The Soulmate Equation
I love this series! It’s very steamy but also emotional. It is a small-town romance with both a rustic setting and billionaire luxury. I love the witty banter and the deep emotional stakes. If you love an enemies-to-lovers trope, definitely pick up t...
Wild Love
This sports romance series is highly emotional and angsty. Set in Ireland, it follows a bullied girl and a popular rugby player. The atmosphere is gripping and heavy with themes of trauma and resilience. It left me with all the feels.
