I used to just stick my finger in the dirt and hope for the best. Then I lost an entire row of peppers to root rot because I had no clue we got two inches of rain Tuesday night.

Before I got a moisture meter, watering was pure vibes. Some days I'd soak everything, other days I'd forget entirely. My rosemary died three times before I figured out it was sitting in wet soil.

Dragging a hose around at 6 AM got old fast. Once I automated the boring part, I started actually enjoying my garden instead of treating it like a second job.

Once I started tracking rainfall I wanted all the data. Temperature, humidity, wind. Turns out knowing the overnight low would have saved me from losing my pepper seedlings to a late frost.

All that data means nothing if you forget what you planted where and when. I spent one whole season growing mystery squash because I lost my labels. Never again.

Data tells you what's coming but you still need to protect the garden when it does. A late frost alert means nothing if you don't have row cover ready to throw over your tomatoes at 11 PM.
