First Person Shooter
I don't like first-person shooters, so if it makes this list, it's something truly special.
In a world full of twitchy, lightning fast games, this has to be the most accessible, fun, and genuinely challenging FPS I've played in a really long time. Great for an after hours reset!
THE FINALS
I don't like first-person shooters, by and large, but THIS is a puzzle game first, with a first person perspective… Oh, and guns! This is the first game that pulled me into its world: the art style of the game, the rules, the mechanics, it's all chef...
DEATHLOOP on PS5
This is my favorite Halo game, because of the classic Halo 3 combat, an interesting story that doesn't just follow Master Chief, and slightly updated graphics from the original Halo 3 (not counting combat evolved). If you wanted to explore the world ...
Halo 3: ODST
Horror
A Spooky fun time for any spooky fun moods!
This one is a weird one: imagine that you had the unfortunate blessing of saving the world from guaranteed death and destruction once a year. You're not doing so by fighting the bad guys or stopping a weapon, but instead by stalking, kidnapping and t...
Life Eater
This was my game of the year in 2023; that should be enough of a recommendation, but here's some more convincing. Sharp gunplay, a mind bending story, some of the greatest world/level design in gaming from the lunatics at remedy games! If you want to...
Alan Wake 2
This is the DEFINITIVE resident evil game. It has all the hallmarks of the series, from the quirky villains, intense moment to moment combat, and a story that will make your headspin. Scary enough to make you jump, but smooth enough to keep you playi...
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Open World Action
Worlds that you can walk around and get lost in.
Leave it to Capcom to make the most unconventional, awkward, clunky game concept and make it an action RPG masterpiece. This was my runner-up for game of the year 2023, and it still holds up! The game world feels lived in, tactile, and real! If you'r...
Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen
The word “underrated” gets thrown around a lot, but if you're not a true to life gamer, then odds are you have no idea what this game is. You play as Marcus, a hacker in the bay area who meets other hackers and you hack your way from the street level...
Watch_Dogs® 2
This is the only spiderman game with wall combat. You play as spiderman (in both the red and black suits) as Venom tries to bring about the symbiote apocalypse. I originally played this on the Wii, upon release, but the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC version ...
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows Video Games for sale
This was the first game, as an adult, that I wanted to get off work to play. Granted, I got this well after release on a Playstation 4, but I got enraptured by the combat, was consistently engaged by the patented Nemesis System, and found myself real...
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition
Strategy
This is one of MY FAVORITE games on the Wii, PERIOD. Silly art direction, with witty dialogue, and fun tactical gameplay. A true classic!
Battalion Wars 2
There are some games that come out and are INSTANT classics. This is one of those games. Create your protagonist, assemble, arrange, and train your crew as you go on a tirade throughout the galaxy. A must play if you love star wars and strategy.
Star Wars: Zero Company
You're in charge of a colony that crash lands on an alien planet and you have to survive: weather, food, animals, all of it. Great game to just get lost in.
RimWorld
Action-Adventure
Games to grab you and push you into a world that's not your own, but incredible in its own way.
This is a game from the pioneers behind Max Payne, the masterminds behind Alan Wake, and some of the most mindboggling and creative art direction ever to be in a video game. Alan Wake 2 is my favorite game from Remedy, but THIS is their magnum opus a...
Control
This game was all over the 7th generation of consoles (Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo DS), but SPECIFICALLY the Wii version is my go to because it's the ONLY version with a head to head versus mode. You can be Anakin and fight your father as Obi-W...
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - Nintendo Wii
It's easy to forget that Batman was a bad word in gaming… Until this game released. This came out a year after The Dark Knight hit theaters, and what that movie did for film, this did for video games. A true instant classic that defines action combat...
Batman: Arkham Asylum
In this, you play as Lee: a guy who may have killed his wife's love right at the beginning of the Zombie Apocalypse. Make friends, enemies, and some of the most important decisions to be made in video game history in this absolute classic game.
The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series
Racing
Sometimes you just wanna get in a car and drive. This is the part of the list for you.
This has all the nostalgia of Burnout from the early 2000's, but the buttery slickness of a modern racing game. I cannot suggest this one any harder!
Tokyo Xtreme Racer
This is THE racing game in 2026. Arcade racing fun with such a wide diversity of cars, modes, and the beautiful backdrop of the continent of Japan. Incredible game with something for everyone.
Forza Horizon 6
A blast from the past for anyone who was a fan of Star Wars: Pod Racer, back in the day! A racing game, that adds more to the genre with incredible gameplay and moment to moment danger. Great pick!
Star Wars: Galactic Racer
