Sometimes you just need a laugh, and this is the section for those laughs.
This is the reason we have Will Smith as an actor. The greatest family sitcom, maybe ever? Not quite as big as friends, but it DOMINATED the 90's and kept sitcoms, especially black sitcoms, alive in a time when the genre was starting to get gaunt. An...
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Imagine a family sitcom based on the coolest uncle you could ever had and his family. Now imagine your uncle and his family is played by some of the most underrated actors in the industry and written by some of the best writing in sitcom history. An ...
My Wife and Kids
This is an odd add outside of adult animation, right? Let me say: this is pure non-stop laughter from the first episode, to the opening credits, to the end of its swift third season. “It's a high watch, and nothing else.” Perfect watch for a quick sp...
Smiling Friends
This is, in my opinion, the quintessential family sitcom. Long running, witty jokes that ONLY get better as the series goes on. Nick @ Nite had a marathon of this series from front to back one night and for every slap stick antic there was a hard hit...
Family Matters
Family matters captures the 90's in a way nothing else does. Modern Family captures the 2000's in the same way. True to life experiences in a shifting world changing from something familiar to something… New and quirky, but full of so much fun. Easy ...
Modern Family
Animated (Kids)
Need something to watch for family night? This is the list for you! Apologies for the childhood scars this may cause.
This show needs no introduction. If you've never seen it… It's a trip. It starts off as a silly story about a kid and his dog, but relatively quickly shifts into something darker with lore that's way more interesting than I'd even lik to give it cred...
Adventure Time
A few years ago, I had a friend explain to me that they weren't allowed to watch this show when they were younger, and I see why! The creepy imagery, adult leaning jokes (that somehow avoid cursing), routine trips to the underworld, and THAT makes it...
The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy
I'm torn about this one because you can't actually watch it. It's an anthology, so each season is its own story at its own tone, with all new characters every season. This show was a casualty of the Warner Bros. tax deduction, cancellation and remova...
Infinity Train
Elite storytelling, compicated characters, all wrapped up in a superhero package that starts off familiar and quickly shows that it's anything but. A must watch for anyone a fan of comics and superheroes.
Teen Titans
Drama
Serious situations, incredible writing, amazing acting. Shows you can really get lost in.
In my opinion, this is the gold standard of television. Every episode, every scene, every line spoken had me ready for the next one. It cannot be overstated for just how well crafted this show is. You will be hard pressed to find anything else quite ...
Breaking Bad
This may come across as an odd add to the drama section, especially because there's two animated sections, but this show does everything and does it so well that you forget this is partially a Mike Judge joint (of King of the Hill and Beavis & Bu...
Common Side Effects
This is going to go down as the most underrated show, maybe ever. If Breaking Bad is my personal gold standard for television, this is that standard being upheld. Espionage grounded in reality. The characters literally watch the news and make comment...
Lioness
This show FEELS like something special from the opening scene to the very least scene of season one, and from the voyeuristic beginning of season 2 to the satisfying conclusion at the end. I love this show more than I love most things and when it cam...
BEEF
I'm a little biased because it showcases the Alabama native Walton Goggins, but beyond that: you get to see the bright, fascinating, and intricate world of the Fallout video games. Great writing supported by amazing acting and a truly illustrious bud...
Fallout
Animated (Adults)
Why so serious? Hang loose and check out some of the best animated productions with adults in mind.
There's not going to be a lot of Anime on this list, but THIS show feels like what every anime should try to be: each season gets more cinematic, the writing starts good in season one and gets better by season 3. I love this show because it's not jus...
Jujutsu Kaisen
This show is on the list, and not the original Rick & Morty, because not only is it actually funny it's full of supremely smart jokes, a ridiculous premise that takes Keith David as the President and makes the ridiculousness of magic and sci-fi p...
President Curtis
Have you ever felt that the superhero genre was too childish? This show, based on the comic series of the same name, fixes that. Mature story, vivid gore, and characters that change as the seasons continue. Easy recommendation if you need another wor...
Invincible
So this isn't a secret: this is another Seth Macfarlane project meant to follow up to the immense success of Family Guy, but the structure of this show is more family sitcom than animated sketch show. A much easier watch, with a hilarious writing tea...
American Dad!
The sequel series to Adventure Time is all grown up! This spin off explores what it means to grow up and how lucky you are to grow up and become YOU. Not just gender-flipped Finn & Jake, but Finn, Jake and all of your favorite characters from the...
Fionna and Cake
Horror
Eerie, easy to recommend, and not for everyone. But if you like the butterflies you get watching scary things, this is the list you need to rock with.
This is one of those Netflix shows that set the precedent of Netflix shows being an event, not just a “show”. GRANTED the final season is lackluster, and the show has its short comings as the story continues, but it's still an incredible trip down ho...
Stranger Things
Probably the scariest show on the list, not because of the monsters or the violence, but because it takes the happenings of right now: the technology, social media, economic uncertainty. I sat my family down back in high school and made my grandmothe...
Black Mirror
This series is a trip. No, literally. There's time travel, there's characters that are really other characters, and all of it is wrapped up in a slow burn, eerie, drab, grimy European modern day, well… For the most part. If you have the time, this is...
