Here's where we stayed. When travelling solo I opted for student accommodation that is rented out during the college summer break. These accommodations are usually very close to the centre of town and feel very safe for a solo traveller.
We stayed at the YHA Bath. It's in a peaceful garden setting on one of the hills. It's an easy walk into Bath but I'd recommend not walking back unless you really like hill climbs. Especially with luggage! There are a couple of bus routes that drop y...

An easy 15 minute walk to the centre of York the IQ Brickworks felt very safe and cosy. It's bed and bathroom only, no option to get food included, no kettle etc… but it's a 2 min walk to Morrisions Supermarket.

Christs College is in the centre of Cambridge. The grounds are insanely beautiful with Charles Darwin being a notable alumni. The room was comfortable, had tea/coffee facilities. Out the door and you're in the action.

Cash is not king in the UK. A Wise card is.

Here's how to get around
I found the easiest way to book train tickets is Trainline. They have an app so when you buy tickets they sit in your app so you don't have to search through emails to find them. You get the cheapest fares by booking 2 + weeks in advance.

Sometimes bus transport is more convenient and cheaper than train travel. I caught a Flix between cities, saved money and it took the same amount of time as the train. Worth comparing.

Bath Visit
There are lots of great spots to visit. Here's what we chose or would recommend.
You can't come to Bath without visiting the place that gives it its modern name. Allow 1.5-2 hours to go through the exhibits and listen to all the fascinating information on Roman life.

Lake District

I stayed at the Strands Inn. A fairytale place surround by high peaks and a 30 min walk from the deepest lake. The Strands is owned by a lovely family who will do their best to make sure your stay is comfortable.
