Now you can start off with any type of needle but I always recommend one that has the handle cushioned to be a little more ergonomic. It's easier to grip and this back comes with a variety of sizes to start off with!

While it's not necessary, it makes crocheting so much easier. My favorite yarn needles to use are made of plastic but metal will work just as fine. I just prefer the bending of plastic.
