Oooooooh! Halloween will be here before we know it and my kids love a good scary and funny story to get into the spooky season. Here's some of my favorites to keep kids entertained.
This is an all time Halloween classic from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. A tale of friendship and helping each other out in sticky situations.
Room on the Broom
A great rhyming counting book about a witch and ten ghosts. Great for younger kids and also ESL learners. They love the rhythm and finding (and counting) the ghosts on each page. Will the ghost seek revenge?
Ten Timid Ghosts
You might think a flap board book is just for toddlers, but trust me, I teach 7 year olds who LOVE flap books!
Where Is Baby's Pumpkin?
Jasper Rabbit loves pulling and eating carrots, but he starts to get paranoid when he thinks the carrots are after him! Great sepia toned illustrations, with orange highlights. I wonder if this would work as an Easter bunny story too?
Creepy Carrots!
A fun book, great for older kids, especially those who like to have tantrums. There’s a whole series of Crankenstein books, so check them out.
Crankenstein
Another classic story, with rhyming and repetitive language. Beneath the scary witch and her ghouly friends is a story of teamwork and working together.
Big Pumpkin
Do you live with a little person who can never decide what to wear at Halloween? This book is for them!
Monster Needs a Costume
Boo doesn't know how to be scary and that's okay! On a Halloween night full of surprises, giggles, and the magic of being yourself, Boo sets off on a heartwarming adventure. Boo Who? is a not-so-spooky tale of kindness and courage.
Boo Who?: A Not-So-Spooky Tale of Kindness and Courage
Really lovely story, with pretty illustrations. This book is great for Fall or for Halloween.
I'm Not Scary
Wanna know how to pick the best pumpkin to make a Jack O'Lantern? This book is right up your alley!
Pick a Pumpkin: (A Rhyming Holiday Story of Autumn Traditions for Toddlers, Preschoolers, and 1-2 Graders)
A nice easy picture dictionary for Halloween. The illustrations are so fun too.
B Is for Boo: A Halloween Alphabet
A good one to read in early October, because it's about choosing a costume, bad moods and worrying less!
The Bad Seed Presents: The Good, the Bad, and the Spooky: Over 150 Spooky Stickers Inside. A Halloween Book for Kids
Have you ever wonder what happens at ghost school? This funny rhyming book is for you!
How to Haunt a House
Beautifully illustrated, great for older kids, a rhying story of a group of friends who tries to take pomegranates from a witch's tree.
The Pomegranate Witch
There are so many Winnie and Wilbur books in the series. This is the first, a great place to start!
Winnie and Wilbur: Winnie the Witch
From award-winning actress Aubrey Plaza and writer Dan Murphy comes the story of a feisty wannabe bruja and the kooky witch she helps to throw the best Halloween party of the season!
